Looking for a song

Hello

I am trying to find a good bass soprano duet to sing with a friend of mine, but I am having a hard time trying to find classical ones that aren’t from operas. oratorios are okay, but opera… Can anyone help?

Check out movements from Bach’s choral works - he loved writing for that combination. A couple of my favorites are:

“Komm, mein Jesu, und erquicke” from BWV 21
“Mein Freund ist mein” from BWV 140

Others that come to mind:

“Nun verschwinden alle Plagen” from BWV 32
“Wer mich liebet, der wird mein Wort halten” from BWV 59
“Gott, du hast es wohl gefüget” from BWV 63
“Gott, ach Gott, verlass die Deinen” from BWV 79
“Wie soll ich dich, Liebster der Seelen, umfassen?” from BWV 152
“Händen, die sich nicht verschließen” from BWV 164
“Der ewig reiche Gott” from BWV 192
“Mich kann die süße Ruhe laben” from BWV 207a
“Herr, dein Mitleid, dein Erbarmen” from BWV 248

THere is a duet in Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”, between the “widow” and Elijah, “What have I to do with thee”…beautiful piece.

You might look at some of the Beethoven Schottische Lieder…you can use any voice types which can manage the range and tessituras.

Bach BWV 140 has two duets, also “Wenn kömmst du, mein Heil?”, as well as the "Mein Freund ist mein.

So glad to hear “Elijah” recommended. Feel like I don’t hear it often enough or even parts of it. Can’t go wrong with the Bachs either. Let us know what you choose.
