Looking for Japanese exchange programs (resident of Florida)

Hi everyone!
I am a sophomore attending a school in florida. and i am looking into taking my art to the next level. i am planning on becoming a mangaka( manga artist ) and starting to look into international programs. but i seem to face the issue of being caught in dead-ended websites that don’t give me all the information i need. i really want to study in japan and learn their language and culture. Me and my student councilor are looking into the UF’s exchange program. He told me to look at other schools for more backbone in case i don’t get into the UF. Thank you!

Just to clarify, you are a HS sophomore at this point? And you are looking for which colleges have good Japanese exchange programs?

yes.

Edited the title to potentially get more responses

There are lots of exchange programs in Japan, so I would think that most colleges that have study abroad programs would offer some options. Including, if I found the right page, UF: Programs > International Center This probably shouldn’t be a limiting factor as you consider which colleges to apply to. You might also want to look at Temple University’s Japan site. Temple is unusual in having an entire campus in Tokyo. Also, try googling “study manga in Japan.” I just did that and a lot of things popped up, including a two-week summer course. It seems a lot of the schools that offer this are in Tokyo, although I’m sure there must be others in Osaka or Kyoto. If you are serious about this plan, one thing you should try to do now is begin studying Japanese. The more you can learn before you arrive in Japan, the more productive your time in the country will be. It’s a very interesting language to learn, as the culture is all tied up in the language, but it’s also very challenging. Don’t fall for the idea that it’s ok if you only learn to speak and not to read or write. Learning the characters is very important and makes things easier in the long run. (Also probably fun for an artist.)
