I’ve been seeing the whole UC Berkeley portal astrology myth going around on Reddit and ZeeMee where if you can successfully log into CalNet and see a student profile, it supposedly means you’ve been accepted. But if you get the message “account has yet to be created,” it means you’ve been rejected. And surprise, surprise… I got the “account has yet to be created” message.
I really regret choosing EECS as my major and Mechanical Engineering as my alternate, just because of how competitive both are. I know I should have more hope for UC Berkeley since they invited me to submit letters of recommendation where I know they only send this to 15% of applicants and does an Augmented Review for them. My Pre-Calculus teacher and my math tutoring mentor kindly submitted for me and I’m super thankful for that. But honestly, my stats feel pretty mid compared to others I’ve seen:
(This is just a general overview of my app—I won’t go into too much detail.)
But yeah, UCLA rejecting me really hurt. Luckily, I got into UCSD for Computer Science, which I’m very grateful for. The only issue is that it’s far from home, while Berkeley is just 30 minutes away and has always been my dream. It’s just feeling more and more unlikely and I wanted to get this off my chest. Good luck to everyone.
i get it! makes so much sense. i just want you to remember how fantastic UCSD is! that program is amazing too omg! also college is THE time to go far away and experience, just keep that in mind. i wish you the best and know you’ve probably heard these same things many times over, but try to keep it in mind during this time. you will end up where you’re meant to be!
Cal isn’t all that. Seriously. The atmosphere can be intense and the food is inedible. I get that seems like something minor, but it’s not. When most people say “Freshman 15” they’re referring to gaining 15 pounds. At Cal, it’s more likely to mean losing 15 pounds because there is literally nothing worth eating in the dining halls. It has gotten so bad. The dorms are also pretty bad, with only a few exceptions. The lifestyle isn’t that great.
I am not a fan of astrology, so can’t tell you whether it means anything or not. But even if it does and Cal isn’t in the cards for you, you will have an amazing experience at UCSD. Embrace it. The weather is beautiful and it’s just a short plane ride away from Northern California. You get the best of both worlds. So maybe this is the proverbial blessing in disguise for you.
Burner_account I copy pasted this from a person in another channel and they explained it very well, so I wanted to provide it for ppl here
To everyone that is still awaiting IDs.
Due to Berkeley Spring Recess, the office of admissions does close on Monday March 24. This does mean that the office will be on spring recess (spring break essentially) during this time. I’ve also come to learn through past applicants that these calNet IDs are put in either manually or at least supervised by a registrar worker as these IDs are solely for accepted individuals (of course excluding the side cases of past berkeley interactions).
Thus it could start to be said that the IDs would stop either tonight (or it has already stopped) or at least mid-day tmw. I think the reason why some people got their astrology to work before hand was due to them being admitted early which is around the time when they’re still playing around with acceptances.
But from some past cases hope could still be held out for quite literally a handful of individuals who’s waitlists might turn into acceptances at the last minute.
But I hope this cleared up some of the confusion over the possible “waves” and such… also I know a person who’s currently attending cal, and the astrology didnt work with him last year. dont lose hope and good luck everyone!
Really want to stress this. I’m in a similar boat, Cal Regents invite, UCLA, and yet still waitlisted from UCI, UCSD, and UCSB. It’s all random (Mind you, same unweighted GPA and hooks, but I applied for Mathematics). Keep your head up, there’s literally 3 days left. You got this!!!
Note, I am pretty sure that augmented review is a good thing, not a bad thing. Might just be me, but I think your chances are higher!
My sister who got in early for MET and had Cal regents has her id pop up for her on the page. I don’t know about early but it’s the same as my page right now and I have the id. Also the id on the page is used as her cal student ID so I think it probably means something.
You should be very grateful. If it makes you feel any better my sister got rejected from UCSD cs and got into MIT! That just shows how competitive the pool of applicants are this year you should be very proud that you got into UCSD its a great school.
Are you sure about this? While there are no classes and students are on spring break, many of the admin units work as usual. I can’t say for sure about admissions, but I would imagine they do indeed work this week.
