Loyola Marymount Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Congratulations! Can I ask what his GPA was?

Son got $19k Arrupe Scholarship + $2k EA. GPA 4.24.

Am I correct in assuming that the $2K EA award is a one-time grant, not something that renews each year?

My DD received (her WGPA 4.48):
Grant Award $9K
EA Award $2K
Arrupe Scholarship $16K

I’m assuming it’s a one-time award.

His GPA was a 4.41 W, but lots of pretty special mentorship, coaching and writing stuff.

I am assuming so as well

My daughter only got $8,500 plus the $2,000 EA. Pretty bummed!!! I heard they don’t really hear appeals either. We are going to visit it in 2 weeks and have a tour of the dance program since she was excepted into the Dance Major and was super excited about it! Does anyone know if they give any artistic/dance scholarships?

Do you have any information about the Grant Award? My daughter got one

My daughter received:

$16k Arrupe Scholarship
$10.9K Grant
$2K EA Award

Looks like our DD’s got very similar $ from LMU (Edit to my post…the LMU Grant is $9,800)
I’m not sure what the Grant is…need? Major Specific?

My DD received $12,500 Arrupe + $2k EA. We don’t qualify for need-based aid. LMU off our list as the value isn’t there for her compared to her other options, especially with the potential cost of attendance increase each year:

2022-2023 COA: $76,966
2023-2024 COA: $84,208 (9.4% increase)
2024-2025 COA: $89,477 (6.3% increase)

My DD22 also considered LMU but chose UCSB. We are OOS (northeast) so the costs of LMU after scholarship and UCSB were within a few thousand of each other at the time. However, that certainly wouldn’t be the case now. Since UCSB has tuition stability, LMU would be costing us significantly more than UCSB now.

Yes, the grant is need based and part of FA package, not a merit award

LMU is kind of a commuters school. Weekends and summers are pretty quiet, esepcially because LMU holds highschool summer classes for highschoolers.

TBH none of the students can find anything the justify the increases. We just lost 6 of our sports teams this month (very out of the blue in terms of announcing). Do not go bankrupt for LMU. Go to something more cost affordable.

That is really good to know!

That is just not true. My son is a freshman mechanical engineering major and loves it. He is always doing something whether it be on campus or in LA. On Tuesday, John Green (The Fault in Our Stars) will be speaking on campus for First Amendment Week. Wellness Wednesdays are held every week on campus and my son said they are always setting up for one event or another. He’s joined a few clubs and met a lot of friends in his dorm.

No matter what college your student chooses, it is what they make of their time there. LMU offers so many ways to be involved, but its up to you to join.

We’ve visited LMU several times…definitely does NOT feel like a commuter school.

I apologize if it came off a certain way, and I am very involved in campus myself. I just know many students go home to their parents (if they live nearby) or stay with friends during the weekends. Thursday and Friday nights are very well known for cars just lining up to pick up students with their suitcases. It’s not a bad thing. and It’s not dead during the week. Just the weekend especially because a lot of club things do not happen on the weekend unless it’s like sports. Even the gym really empties out on the weekends. You’re just less likely to see a lot of people walking around on campus compared to the weekdays.

Just giving a perspective, and I am glad your family feels otherwise. I am not saying this is why not to go to LMU, more why that tour may have not felt as lively as usual LMU standard.

LMU is definitely NOT a commuter school. Our student is always busy on campus - participates in club sports and fraternity life in addition to other the loads of other extracurricular activities available. Such a beautiful campus and a wonderful community.
