This is the official thread for those applying EA/ED to Loyola Marymount University.

Starting this off with a “warning” and a chuckle for this year’s applicants. My 2024 grad applied EA to LMU last year and was deferred.

We knew that EA decisions were coming on out on Dec 15th. On Dec 14th they sent her an email, addressed to her by name, that literally ended with these words…

“We look forward to your academic journey with our LMU family in our home, the City of Angels.”

Easy to look back and laugh at it now but I will say it took me by surprise to receive this email the day before receiving a deferral. Hopefully they will change the wording or timing of the marketing this year but wanted to give a heads up that it was a little off

My son is applying ED. Visited the school last weekend and fell in love.

Great recommendations and strong essays

Is there an ED notification date? On website it just said by mid December.

Crossing my fingers for him as I think the school is a great fit.

I wanted to gain some insight to whether applying to EA has any advantage. I know ED is binding and the percentage of acceptance is higher. But does EA also have a higher acceptance than RD? Thanks.

Hi there! I applied ED and got my response back on November 24th. Super fast. I am very very confident your son will get in! LMU loves people super involved in extracurriculars! Your son will love LMU

Hi there. EA definitely doesn’t have as much weight as ED does, but it helps a little bit. In general I recommend all students apply to as many schools as they can in EA. You get your responses back faster, and you can generally go into winter break with a decreased amount of stress waiting for decisions to come out. Good luck

Thanks. I asked this question because many state schools don’t have ED. Therefore, I was wondering if applying EA will demonstrate a higher degree of interest. Your response was helpful.

My son applied ED as a screenwriting major.
3.8 UW GPA/ 4.2 W
No test scores
ECs related to writing and film
Participated in LMU pre-college program this past summer

He has his heart set on LMU…hoping for good news!

Thanks - I hope you are right!

Son applied EA for Fall 2025. 3.61UW/3.7W at end of Junior year. Applied with SATs 1430 (670 Math/760 EBRW). Major is English. From Jesuit HS. Bay Area.

EC’s include Eagle Scout, Affinity groups with leadership, school ambassador, Ignatian Global Scholar, political campaign volunteer, part time job, symphonic band member.

We visited last April for a special admitted students open house. Though he was a junior, the campus left quite an impression on him! He loved everything about it.

Does anyone else have an offer of admission in their portal?

My son was accepted! Woo! Woo!

I think only ED decisions were released. Not EA

Son applied EA with no updates yet.

Congrats to your son! Was he EA or ED?

Thank you! He applied ED because he knew LMU was his first choice. He is super excited! I believe EA hears back mid-December, so you should know soon, but I know how hard waiting can be. Good luck!

Our letter said merit award notifications would come in February. If you read your letter through do you see that?
