Hi. I received a letter from NYU today telling me that I got rejected from CAS, but accepted to LSP. After doing some research on the NYU site for LSP and CC, I’m still not sure what my decision will be. Granted, I still several schools to hear back from, but the letter from NYU said that I have to reply within three weeks. My questions are:

1) RSVPing to the LSP offer is non-binding right?
2) Are there any Econ majors here who were also put into LSP? Can you share what your experience has been like? (Or any major, for that matter.)
3) I’ve read that people have finished LSP early. How exactly would one go about doing that?

I finished liberal studies in 1 year but the program was different back then. Freshmen year I did Writing I and II, Cultural Foundations I and II, Social Foundations I and II, Topics in Modern Society, and East Asian Culture. I didn’t do any math/sci classes since I’m a sci major and I didn’t do MAP foreign language because I placed out of it. I also came in with 32 AP credits so I was classified as a Sophomore first year.

The new requirements are: Soc foundations I, II, III, Cultural foundations I, II, III, Writing I and II, 1 global culture, 2 science classes. That’s 11 courses and if you do the normal 4 per semester, 3 semesters is plenty. If you’re a science major, you don’t have to do the science classes. The Advising office contacts you if you can transfer early so don’t worry about it.

And I know LS has 2 econ courses which count toward the major (Intro Macro and Intro Micro). Econ is a popular major with not too many requirements so it’s fairly easy to do with lsp.

So if you get LSP you are like borderline? and you’re not really good enough to be accepted at NYU? or is it just that you’re not good enough to be in at CAS?

I got into the liberal studies program
it is BINDING
you have to sign up within the three weeks
and also it probably means that we weren’t good enough for CAS but good enough for NYU
its like they didn’t want to reject us but couldn’t fully accept us

There are threads that go into extensive details about LSP.
I just received the same CAS-rejection-but-LSP-acceptance letter yesterday and most of my questions have been answered. There are two important questions that have yet to be answered, though:
How much tuition are we talking about here?? I heard it was somewhere around 50,000! I know that there is no way in heck I will be able to attend NYU if LSP calls for that much from my pocket.
Which AP courses exactly (assuming you received a 4 or 5 on the exam) will give you credit? I got a 5 in APUSH, and am currently taking AP Enlgish, Government, Calculus, and Music Theory.
Any help would be appreciated!

Just to clarify – people are talking about applying RD and getting a LSP letter the last day or so? And – also – if it wouldn’t be too forward to ask — would you mind posting your SAT, GPA and other significant stats? Thanks – and congrats! I would love to be in your shoes.

I got my LSP letter yesterday too but NYU is the only school I’ve heard from. I wont learn about my other schools until march or april and I’m not 100% sure if I can afford NYU. Do we seriously have to reply within the next 3 weeks??

@ lolgirl: that is completely not true. my brother got into LSP when he applied and then within a year was admitted to CAS. he had amazing stats and did not get accepted to CAS. this does not mean that you weren’t good enough for CAS, simply NYUs way of saying…no room but you’re still good. and you get your school after you complete the requirements. for ex if you finish the core reqs within 2 semesters you’ll be taking courses with CAS for the next 3 years. ( you could still be taking courses with CAS students as a freshman). getting into LSP is pretty damn good guys.

did you guys apply to NYU RD??? if so, you’re finding out your decisions really quickly! if you wouldn’t mind, could you guys post your stats? :)

Sansri88 —you’re right about Stern – LSP is from CAS for the most part – however, some Gallatin, Steinhardt and Tisch trickle in as well, I believe.
