LSP - RSVP binding?

Oh, ok, that’s what I figured.
I don’t mind.
None of my “numbers” are terrific, but I was heavily involved in musical extracurricular activities (though my intended major is IR, History, or Econ).
Cumm GPA - 3.95
Rank - Top 7%? I believe…
SAT - 1940
SAT USH - 750
SAT Math II - 630
APUSH - 5
Will be taking AP Eng, Calc, Gov, and Music Theory exams in May.
I can list my music extrac’s if you’d like. Otherwise, there you are!

^Can you also list your music ECs  Because I was also quite involved in musical ECs lol I want to compare–>Well I know that yours must be much better =]

and I want to know your M/CR scores

Were you really? Ooo, I’m interested!
Marching Band - 4 years (Section leader this and last year) (Baritone Freshman year and Sousaphone remaining years)
Winter Percussion - Same deal (Pit [mallet percussion] all four years)
Morgan Hill Wind Symphony - 4 years (Bassoon, Tuba, and Percussion)
Jazz Band (Bari Sax first three years, Tenor this year)
East Bay Symphonic Band - Joined last year and play Bassoon
Those take up pretty much every free hour I have. ;]

Aside from these, I was accepted into the Alameda County Honor Band all four years of High School (Bassoon, Tuba, Bassoon, and Bassoon [principal Bassoonist my final year, second chair all previous years]) and, the only year I auditioned (last year), was accepted into the California All-State Honor Band on Bassoon. Depressingly enough, I could not attend because I caught a 103 fever the day I was suppose to depart. =[

Sousa, I saw your thread asking if LSP will severely hinder your future aspirations. Those were some gross misconceptions you had there.

But I’m just wondering - will the rest of us who haven’t heard back yet either get a straight out acceptance or rejection?

It’s only February. If you haven’t heard yet, it just means you haven’t heard.

Damn CC won’t let me write in ALL CAPS.

It’s only the 2nd week of Feb, jeeeeeeeez.

do you think all the applications have been reviewed by now?

Well, so long as they truly were gross misconceptions.
But how will affect me financially, in your opinion? I REALLY want to go to NYU, but I can’t imagine how I’d pay…

LSP notifications usually continue through March…

Did you apply for Financial Aid?

I most definitely applied for financial aid.
Nevertheless, I don’t see the practicality of being tens of thousands of dollars in debt once I leave (and I plan on continuing to grad school).
If I get accepted and it is at all less unbearable financially, should I just attend BU’s CAS?
Ugh, I’m so torn…

Well, BU and NYU have around the same tuition, although NYU has the better academic reputation in most subjects (obviously not all). I say go with whatever college you like more. I personally think it’s not worth going into debt if you can avoid it, certainly not tens of thousands of dollars. I would personally never go into debt for BU to be honest. I do like NYU but I would have gone to SUNY-Binghamton in a heartbeat if I had been disappointed by NYU’s financial aid.

NYU could surprise you with financial aid, so wait until you hear back. I wasn’t expecting any need based aid but I did get a nice merit scholarship which I wasn’t expecting, especially considering i’d been placed in liberal studies. Make sure to apply for outside scholarships as well. I’m on 2 scholarships (an NYU one and one from an organization called the DAR) and they’ve made college pretty affordable (no debt) so that was a huge relief.

My LSP letter came yesterday.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have no idea…you tell me.[/li][/ul]General Comments:

I’m really excited! 'won’t be able to afford without a lot of financial aid though.

^OMG 98 unweighted GPA?? WOW!!! I only have a 92 -,-
and you are a professional musician? That’s interesting… =]

yeah, I’m a drummer/percussionist. And I’m not sure why they couldn’t put me in CAS. I’m guessing there wasn’t enough room somehow, I have no idea.

Just like to let you guys know, LSP isn’t always the final call. Last year in May, around the time waitlisted students were being accepted, a small number of LSP students were emailed and offered the option to either remain in LSP or switch to CAS (the cases I heard of were CAS, I’m not sure if this was true of LSPers from any of the other schools).

It’s not a huge chance, considering I really only heard about a handful of these cases, but just letting you know that LSP isn’t always the final call. It’s kind of like being on the waitlist, only you still get to go if you don’t get into your first choice.

Congrats! But I’m curious… when did you guys apply? November? December?

I actually applied a day before the deadline. In fact, I started my application really late. =p

I sent in my application mid-December. I’m guessing they filled up a LOT of CAS spots with ED candidates this year, as there doesn’t seem to be any room for lots of strong candidates that have applied RD.

Should I send NYU an email saying that I’m actually very interested in their LSP program?
If I don’t get into CAS, I’d still be happy to get into their LSP program. Should I let the admission office know it?

I just got my CAS-rejection-LSP-acceptance yesterday, and judging from the stats that I’ve seen from people who are in the same boat as me - I’m shocked that I got into NYU at all.

If anyone’s wondering, I got a really low score of 1860/2400 for my SAT I, and as an international student I do not have any GPA, AP classes, Class Rank for the admissions officer to base their acceptance on. I’m currently waiting for the release of my A Level results come March, and the original plan was to provide NYU with my results in March (since I was expecting acceptance/rejection letters to come trickling only in April).

My extra-curricular activities and my essay might have saved me from an outright rejection though.

Question: Does this mean my chances for CAS are gone, even with stellar A Level results?

@Shinywing, I didn’t even know NYU’s LSP existed even before I received the email. Don’t worry, you (unlike most of us), are still in the running for CAS! : )
