Application submitted 10/11. Decision came today! (So for those of you still waiting, there is hope)
My son got his merit letter around 12/20.
Would you mind sharing the approx. merit offer you received? I called Admissions this morning and they said they are still working on getting out the merit packages for December admits but I’m hoping to get a general idea about what they might offer.
I’m relieved to hear that they are still working on merit packages for December admits! LSU is one of my DD’s top schools and cost is a big factor in the decision making process.
@scrapple, are you from Philly?
We are OOS and my son received merit of $15,000 per year for each of the 4 years. He applied on Jan 2 and was accepted on Jan 12 with merit package coming about a week later.
Thank you for sharing that and Congratulations!
Yes - what gave it away? LOL
D got accepted in Dec, but still to hear about merit etc
Really happy my S24 applied early. We are now comfortable spending the $$$ to go to the LSU admitted student day on February 2. I’m hoping he loves it.
He was deferred at Tennessee so LSU is in his top 5 w/ SMU, Baylor and Tennessee and James Madison.
I hope he loves it! Can’t wait to hear!
D applied in early October (OOS) but still hasn’t heard back. She even contacted admissions and they just said that everything looks submitted and ready to be reviewed, but still no word. LSU was a strong choice at first, but now she has been admitted to better schools, and even her dream school. Her friends have heard back that had applied months after her. I wish that this was truly rolling, and there was at least a time estimate, since she only has one more school EA and regular starts coming out soon.
Have you heard back yet? Same situation here.
My son is in the same boat. Applied OOS somewhere around October 10. We have checked with Admissions too and just get a generic response. We’ve pretty much moved on from LSU as a result.
My son applied at the end of Sept. 2023, documents were accepted on 10/2/23 and it’s now 1/31/24 and we haven’t heard a peep.
So, I have a question for others regarding GPA. My son has a 91 overall average and his GPA given by the HS is a 3.1. They figure a 70 average as a GPA of 1.0, 71 is 1.1, 80 - 2.0, 90 is 3.0 and so on. The only 4.0 is a 100. Where I come from a 1.0 is F and you need to make alternate arrangements.
I have a friend whose son has a 90 average 1 point lower than my sons and their HS gives him a 3.5. Another friend’s son’s HS is on a letter grade GPA and his A’s and B’s give him a 3.3 and he’s got an 87 average.
Does LSU really look at each HS’s GPA scale differently? I think we are getting too hung up on this, I’m just hoping they compare apples to apples since his 3.1 would be a 3.5 or 3.6 anywhere else.
My D was accepted after 4 months of waiting. I hope your son hears soon. It seems there is no rhyme or reason to their review process.
I would expect the school to compare apples to apples when it comes to GPA, but that’s just my opinion.
For anyone curious – I received admission to the Ogden Honors College on December 21 and merit scholarship award on December 19.
Son made a last minute decision to apply to LSU. Pre med / biology major. Both of us parents are alum. When should we expect a Decision and is it too late for honors and scholarships ? He would definitely qualify, we believe , for both.
Congrats!!! Your post does help the rest of us who find ourselves in a similar situation. We are at the 4 month mark as well and hope is definitely fading. This may be too personal and I understand if you don’t want to share, but I was wondering if she applied test optional? What do you think was the strongest part of her application that helped? Maybe extracurriculars, class load with AP classes, the essay?? My daughter has definite strengths and weaknesses, but we just didn’t think the decision would take this long. I almost wish they would just decline her now if that is the case so she can move on. This dragging on and on is mentally exhausting for her.
My D applied TO, with solid grades but no APs. I think her essay was pretty good.
I hope you hear soon. I was honestly frustrated with the fact it took 4 months with no communication in between, but obviously delighted when she got in.
