it’s lowk funny during class and harkness we’ll be all serious and grr ‘academic weapons’ but outside of class we goof around a ton.

Only a week left until the end of February oml. Once it becomes March I feel it’s actually gonna hit me.
O Andover, with halls so grand,
Where wisdom walks and truths expand,
I stand before your hallowed gate,
A hopeful heart, resigned to fate.
Your Harkness tables call to me,
A place where minds roam bold and free,
Where questions spark, where voices rise,
Where knowledge shines in eager eyes.
O let me tread your storied ground,
Where legends grew and dreams are found,
For in your light, I long to be-
Andover, will you welcome me?
I wonder if Andover stops emailing you the Weekender if you don’t get in
?
chat I thought February was supposed to be the shortest month
why is it taking so long

72% of the way there!
13% chance that all of my apps have decisions
probably more since I doubt they’re looking through applications on March 9th.
Not sure it works that way. In an email exchange with an AO two days back (they reached out to get clarity on a topic), the AO referenced that they had literally just finished reading, and committee discussions were just getting started. So most decisions are soon to be made.
The part I can’t figure out, is how do the FA offices work so quickly. That would give them only a few days. In this particular instance, the school received just north of 2100 apps. They have a yield of about 70 percent, based on things published in the school paper in recent years. I believe they need to fill 200ish seats across year groups. So that’s about 286 offers, and about 105-10 FA packages to crank out. I imagine they must consider many factors, not just what the computer spits out. They have to work really quickly. It would not make sense for them to be creating FA packages for the kids who aren’t accepted. So they cram at the end? This is the part that is not clear to me.
Decisions are happening as we ponder futures here. I hope you get what you want. There are so many good kids in this process. I wish every one of them could get their first choice.
And for those of you seeking data, there are often articles in the school paper around April 10, the first week of school, or various times when the Head of School speaks and is quoted, like parents weekend.
For a few schools, we have gleaned precise acceptance rate, number of applicants, yield, kids typically added per grade, and if the waitlist is used in some years. There is a good bit of info out there. It is just rarely served up neatly on a platter.
And my kid is off on an Outdoor Ed adventure with his school until June. No electronics of any kind. So he will get minimal feedback and I need to act on his instructions. Imagine not knowing your results when everyone else does. I feel for him. Prior to my son’s departure, there was more than one “May the odds be ever in your favor!” joke cracked in this house. Glad he has a sense humor. The numbers themselves are not inspiring, so we are leaning in to humor to get us through. Highly reccommend.
I’ll be quietly cheering for you as I watch your daily countdown.
