It is absolutely valid for anyone rejected by any school to feel upset. This is a very raw process and students are putting themselves out there to be judged, sometimes for the first real times in their lives. And I am absolutely sure that every single student who is applying has strengths that they would offer a boarding school community. And the number of seats is far smaller than the number of wonderful applicants.
So schools choose, prioritize, balance an incoming class. Academics, athletics, character, finances, diversity balance (race, ethnicity, geography, gender, etc). Many wonderful students will not gain admission. I encourage everyone not to go down the rabbit hole, tempting though it may be, to ask “why (some specific student online or IRL) and not me?” and to remember that your highschool does not define you (thank Gd!) and that you should go to a school that wants you there and where you want to be.
Good luck on Monday, and we all hope you have wonderful choices.
Phases 1: Fear that you should have included more in your essay, your portfolio, your highlight reel, taken the SSAT a 5th time, etc
Phase 2: Letting go of it all and then getting sick because your body can finally calm down from being in fight or flight mode for the last 4 months.
Phase 3: Being over confident about all of the acceptance offers you will receive and imagining yourself deciding where to choose and telling your friends.
Phase 4: Getting impatient because the days are going by too slowly. Binging Netflix and College Confidential to pass time.
Phase 5: Getting nervous and angry in advance at the schools who dared not accept you and constantly refreshing UPS, USPS and FedEx for clues of a package being mailed out.
lowk notifications ruined a lot. for those that dont get them they get sad but for those that do get them the excitement is kinda ruined for M10. oblivion is peace guys best to just turn the notifs off.
Besided the UPS, USPS, Fedex etc notifications, wondering if the regular that schools are sedning as reminders to check in their portal Monday morning for decisions are tailored based on acceptance vs waitlist vs rejection? Is it a standard email sent out to everyone or different. Eg the tone in some emails looks very warm while some are very cold and straightforward…
ok thanks. that helps to know. Andover seemed a bit cold just saying “thank you for your interest” whereas another school mentioned a few lines saying "it was so great knowing you etc. etc’… maybe i am reading too much!
did anyone receive any further usps notification from Lawrenceville after their last notification a few days back (which they asked to ignore as it was an error or something)?
If anyone starts getting responses after midnight Monday can you post to let us know which schools have decisions out (so we can check before getting ready for school if some schools post before 8am est)?
