M10 2026 Freakout Thread

Congratulations on your Deerfield acceptance and thank you for your insight!

Thank you and congrats on getting into Andover! Will you be attending?

I also did not have any leadership positions or outstanding extracurriculars, and I applied for FA so that might have been a factor. I am grateful anyways and cannot wait for revisit day!

What did you score on your SSAT?

As of now, I am leaning towards attending. However, I am concerned with the workload; I’ve heard that there is 4 hours of homework each night, not including extracurriculars. Hopefully I can reach a decision after revisit day.

I have a friend that is currently a freshman at Andover and when he visited my middle school he talked about the workload. He said that it was something he wasn’t used to at first, but then he started getting used to it as the school year advanced

That is great to hear! I really need to work on finishing my work efficiently without sacrificing the quality…

Will you be attending Deerfield?

THATS THE SAME CONCERN I HAVE

(complete)

I have heard a waitlist is basically a soft rejection; I would appreciate suggestions on where I should wait exactly until April 10th to accept (just in case I get off a waitlist, though I only signed up for one).

So typically most if not all of the waitlist action, if any, for a given school will occur after their notification deadline, as that is when the school knows how their enrolled class is shaping up, and what sorts of students, if any, they need to try to find off their waitlist. There in fact can potentially be multiple rounds of waitlist offers as they keep working on finalizing their enrolled class, and in fact sometimes they lose prospective students for various reasons, including to waitlist offers from other schools, and then they might work to replace them too.

So realistically, you will likely have to pay a deposit at some school (assuming you are going private somewhere), and then give up that deposit if you get a waitlist offer from a school you prefer.

You can wait until that school’s notification deadline to pay that deposit if you like, but I would be realistic about the low chances that will actually save you a lost deposit in the event of a waitlist offer.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! I am very grateful for my result, so it sounds like committing to the school that I’ve already been accepted to is the more realistic approach. I really appreciate the advice

He’d definitely attend. He really feels he needs the community of driven students and access to opportunities that he’d never see at his local school - labs, museums, entrepreneurship, etc.

We’ll definitely try to keep hope alive, but we understand the reality.

That is exactly right. There is nothing wrong with putting yourself on a waitlist and writing a LOCI. But then it should be full speed ahead with whatever options you already have. I note sometimes people get so involved in that process that they don’t even take a waitlist offer if it comes, which is also fine.

Schools like to feel the student needs them, and that they could contribute to their progression and development. It’s a mutual benefit. They also like a body of students who are on a similar playing field. Honestly could have been that your son is TOO qualified. Based on his profile, does he really need a bs? If your essays or interviews didn’t make it clear why he needs X school, I’d make that clear in any waitlist letter.

I got into Kent(2nd Choice) Suffield and Hopkins, and I got waitlisted to Deerfield(top choice), Choate, Hotchkiss, Taft, and Loomis. Anything I can do to get off the Deerfield waitlist? I’m perfectly fine with going to Kent though.

I already wrote a LOCI to deerfield
