I disagree with this. As said by someone else you can use your afternoon sports block for Dance and at least two or three days a week there is a big gap between lunch/last class in the morning and sports so you can take advantage of that additional time. This is time you could be studying your “regular” courses, but again, the choices we make. Plus there are several dance-related courses with performances as a their final project which will allow more dance in a block of class time.
It can be done. It will just be more challenging. But again, you won’t be the only one. I guarantee you’ll meet some prima-ballerina from an exotic country who’s like, 12. You can buddy up with them.
In all seriousness, you’ll need to work with your advisor on course selection to ensure you don’t blow up. But its doable.
The transition to in-person classes in an intense academic environment should be a life changing experience.
I suspect that students from in-person schools who are used to being at the top of their class face a substantial adjustment as almost all classmates entering Andover were the top students at their prior school. If one is academically competitive, then Andover’s environment might be too intense initially; it is important to understand, and to accept, that Andover is a community of high achievers and brilliant students. Appreciate the strengths of others without expectations of being the top student in all subjects.
FWIW I knew many all-state football players at SEC schools who rarely got playing time during their four years in college. Academically,Andover will give you all the “playing time” that you can handle, maybe more, but don’t expect to be the star academically in all subject areas.
Thank you for your reply!! I’m definitely not used to being top of my class, especially since my current online school is filled incredibly talented and ambitious students many whom excel in many fields. However, I am fine with this because I feel that the community I am in right now is fulfilling in many ways (being part of such a passionate and empathetic community). But unfortunately, the online environment hasn’t been the best fir for me (I’m a social person who likes to connect with others on a personal level), so I am so glad that I have Andover as an option!
No but I know some high academic kids who would lean towards northeast prep are now headed to new high academic sports boarding school Masters Academy International, in Massachusetts, opening in Sept 2026. Most sports offered but not football. Fencing Olympic team is there https://www.instagram.com/mastersacademyinternational
