Now you know why most schools don’t send acceptance packages overseas

Sorry for the long delay. But for future readers no she did not apply to Lville. Wasn’t the right fit for her but many people love it there!! :raising_hands:

We declined Concord Academy as we were on a full sticker price and after revisit day, it did not feel incrementally as good compared to our local public high school to warrant the high price. Hope we made the right decision!

Given this is the first year that MAI is open, how many “high academic” students do you know who are going? Are they fencers?

I’m hearing about local kids (boys) going or at least interested in going. They are not top students, but they are middle school kids so I wouldn’t say they don’t have the potential to be. That being said, they are also middle school boys who value sports above anything. Ask them what they want to be when they grow up and they are going to tell you they want to play in the NHL, MLB or NBA, and they believe they are, even when their isn’t a chance in h— that it’s going to happen. That being said, they are coming from some of the best school districts in the country, and parents don’t give that up when they think their kid has top academic potential. Especially with competitive club teams in the area. They give it up when they don’t think they can (academically) stand out in the crowd.

I sat at a table with some highly academic ice skaters today. One said how early she needs to get up to practice. I asked her if she had heard that there is a school opening in the area that offers ice skating. She said she hadn’t and was surprised she hadn’t heard talk of it from her skating friends that live in Stow. These are families that are very involved in the school and there is no way these families are pulling their kids from the district they are in to send them to MAI. These kids have access to coaches and great academics where they are and families only pay the ridiculously high housing prices because of the schools. If they are going to pull in skaters, I think it may be from places where kids have to travel a lot more to have ice access and won’t be giving up great academics. Unlike team sports, you don’t need a good team to show off your talents and you can individually travel for great competition.

Hi everyone, I wanted to share that I just attended my revisit day for Andover today and I was so amazed by the sense of belonging I felt, everyone was passionate and had their own interests both inside and outside of academics. I am feeling so grateful and lucky to be even given this opportunity (a bit of imposter syndrome), I even started tearing up a bit when I talked to the staff and students; they are all so compassionate and kind. I am commited to PA

For all these schools (Andover, Exeter, Choate, Deerfield, Groton), what exactly is due April 10? Just you accepting the offer (child does it on portal)? Do parents have to do anything? What about all the documents to sign, are they due for August/September?

For most schools that I am familiar with, by April 10th any parents with legal custody/financial responsibility must have signed the contract and a 10% deposit must have been paid to secure the child’s spot for the fall.

Yes, can confirm for Choate (P‘30), signed contract and deposit submission. It’s in the admissions portal; your enrollment is not considered complete until both are done.

Is the deposit the enrollment fee, or is that something different?

FYI… I decided to commit to St. Paul’s School… it was a really tough decision, but I am excited!

Congrats on making the decision. I know how hard it is to turn down two highly regarded programs. However, SPS is smaller than your other choices, has a much more close-knit community, and is much less cutthroat in terms of campus vibe. I am fairly certain that you will have a fulfilling experience.

The kid was on campus and got a taste of the campus vibe. And loved it.

The cutthroat thing is a canard at at least one of the schools @LightMintDreams turned down that I am very familiar with. SPS is a great place for the right kid, and @LightMintDreams and their family made that call for themselves for whatever reasons. Disparaging the others is in poor taste in my opinion.

Congrats OP.

Great choice ! Congratulations !

If I recall correctly, St. Paul’s School has the highest endowment per student. Plus, it is 100% boarding and 50/50 male/female student body.
