Yes, UWC works a little differently from regular boarding schools. It’s also only a 2-year thing as it’s IB so getting off the waitlist is a really big thing and people will do anything to get off. She’s at the top of the waitlist and needing more FA is quite detrimental to her actually getting off, so the only solution is to pay more ![]()
general statement but I’ve noticed this a lot this year, PLS GUYS DONT PUT YOUR USERS AS YOUR ACTUAL NAME. there’s a reason it’s called college confidential guys
wait really? What other schools, and what type of things are they saying?
And to everyone, are any of you guys getting emails like her?
Not disclosing the school but I’d been talking to the head of Admissions for a while and I think she just really took a liking to me and I’ve been emailing the coach since summer so that definitely helped! My research is also geared towards the specialty I’d be shadowing so that also helped! I’ve gotten pretty far along so getting real experience in the specialty and hopefully research wise is something I made really clear!
It’s also just basically continued emails of interest! Don’t feel bad if you don’t get any it’s not common and in no ways means you’re not getting in to wherever you applied
I read your chance me, and I think Boarding School is really important for who you want to become, so I hope you make it!
You too!
My daughter has gotten some follow up emails, mostly from lacrosse coaches she met with in person.
I don’t think it is inaccurate to call that “recruiting” in a general sense, but it doesn’t guarantee admission. They just want to make sure if they do offer admission, she is likely to consider their offer seriously.
And the absence also doesn’t mean anything In particular. There will be plenty of efforts to get you to take an offer once they make it.
I would imagine you would get some pretty substantial FA. My DS has received 3 early acceptance offers, all with FA and our income much more than yours, so I’d say you have a GREAT chance at some good FA!!!
Andover is known to be generous. Most schools start with income and assets then look at other factors, like whether your family is paying tuition for other children to determine how much FA they will provide. They often want you to have a little skin in the game, so might want your family to pay a small amount. This would make you high need vs full need. But you’ll find out soon enough if you are accepted!
I got a call from Taft that theyre missing my English proficiency test
. I’m Canadian. I speak English and have my whole life, I think they read international on my application, and just ran with that ![]()
SImple mistake on their part. Opportunity on yours to connect cheerfully and respectfully with the AO.
Hello, guys! I know March 10th is going to be here in less than a month (yikes!). I was wondering what schools you have applied to and your profile (ecs, grades, classes, SSAT, etc)?
I think there should be a thread for that somewhere (I think??) I know there was one last year, maybe this year’s isn’t up yet.
Just a quick warning from experience with school admissions discussions in social media . . . .
People are more likely to report good qualifications. They are not trying to be deceptive, it is just a natural thing for people to be more comfortable talking about things of which they are proud.
What then happens is a lot of kids can get a distorted sense of who is applying to these schools. Like so many people seem to have such great qualifications! But they are not actually getting a representative sampling of the applicant pool, and for that matter are not necessarily getting a representative look at how the schools themselves will perceive certain things.
I don’t mean to suggest it is wrong to ask or share, just be aware of this effect, particularly at this stage when anxiety is at a high level. In fact I think sometimes the more helpful discussions are the later “actual results” discussions, when people are maybe a little more open about discussing the pros and cons of their profile, and in general a broader range of applicants might participate.
When will the result of Andover and Exeter come out on M10? Is there any specific time?
My essays might be cooked
Yeah, people say my application looks good, but I think it’s too generic, and that basically every qualified asian applicant will have the exact same thing, if not better.
Are there any people who wrote the essay by themselves and didn’t get it looked at by anyone and just revised it themselves?
