If the email isn’t extremely important then I think it’s best to just let it go, because the AOs are busy people but if you really need to send an email then maybe try sending it to the main admissions office email account instead of a specific person from that school and ask for a confirmation of reception? Tbh i’m not sure either.
Almost 13 days!
I just reread my essays and OH MY GOSH they’re so generic ![]()
How do I compete with people who have hobbies like using a traditional technique from their country to harvest sea cucumbers? Ok that was random but still ![]()
Actually ima stop worrying bc there’s nothing I can do now…
I mean, you are a very unique applicant. I really don’t see too many swimmers like you on here at all. And you are very skilled at all the activities you listed. If you’re fine with sharing, what are some things that make some of your classmates and other people from your school “unique” you would say? Being from a feeder school to Loomis is good. And I know aid can be a disadvantage, but It’s not always the end of the world and tons of people still get admitted with aid.
It’s very likely that you are to be more critical of yourself, which I understand, but it’s best not to overthink it. It’s likely that if you showed someone else your essay, they would like it. And from what I read from your “chance me” thread, your essay doesn’t seem generic at all, especially with the swimming portion of your essay.
I have friends that are unique and really impressive in so many aspects that it’s hard to explain them all so here’s just a few.
My friend is also a swimmer at the same level as me, won several scholastic gold keys in art (art is what makes her stand out the most), in one of the best orchestras in the state, published a book in 4th grade, also a debater. (more of a participant though)
My other friend is also a swimmer at a way higher level than I am which is saying a lot, mathcounts/math state champion or something like that, lots of community service, best violinist in the state for 8th grade and under.
My other friend who’s the same age as me is also a swimmer at a higher level than me, state baseball champion, science bowl national qualifier, top 1% AMC 8, high level debater, etc.
These are like the average applicants at my school so I think you can see how i’m worried.
Plus, all these kids are going full pay which makes me really nervous. I would say that my chances would be higher if I went full pay, but that’s just not something my parents want to do.
WAW top 1% AMC she is really smart!!! You are too you got this!!!
Thats my stepbrother who has the top 1% ![]()
I’m cookaty cooked
ok no edit:
POSITIVE MINDSET!
I understand your worry, but in your application at all, did you relate how you could impact the schools you are applying to with your talents and personality? Also, how did your interviews go if you had them? I am quite astonished that your public school has people like that, who usually would only be seen in private schools, but that doesn’t ruin your chances. Also, your leadership really helps you stand out. I know it can be really hard not to worry, and I get it. But the best option is just to try to. No matter what, you are definitely going places in life. And just because other people from your school are qualified, that doesn’t change that. Best case, you get admitted to one of the schools (I’m confident you can get into at LEAST Emma Willard). But what have you tried to make stand out on your application? Because personality and character matter a LOT too. Sorry for this post being kinda messy and all over the place.
But yeah, as Fortuity said, you got this. ^v^
In my chance me I didn’t really talk about everything I do/my achievements, but I can say that I have had a lot of impact with them (raised like $4,000 for cancer, $4,000 for school thru student council, led school dances, founded a debate program and stuff like that) I can actually dm u the full list if you want, but I don’t want to post it publicly bc I don’t wanna get doxxed lol. My interview was decent. It was good, but not good to a point where I stood out amongst everyone else. I think the only thing going for me right now is that i’m still communicating/in touch with the swim coach at Loomis. My main concern is the FA aspect, as many people have told me that if they already fill enough spaces with high achieving full pay students from my school they likely will accept those kids rather than the kids applying for FA. (I’m sorry this is kinda confusing)
Lol same, I also got top 1%, this year had to be the easiest by far
that is what I want to tell the AOs
Oh, it’s fine, it’s not confusing to me. But raising that much money is WONDERFUL! And founding a debate program is also phenomenal. And the fact that you’re in touch with the swim coach at Loomis shows that you care about the school more and want to attend, which is a big positive. And the swim coach could’ve recommended you to the admissions office. And yeah, I get not sharing it all, don’t dox yourself lol. I really hope the admissions office is thinking what I’m thinking, which is that the fact that you did all of this while needing FA shows an insane amount of effort. Because usually people who are full-pay have had many more opportunities presented to them. And honestly, you are an amazing person who a school would want in their community. Which, in the end, is a huge factor. And I don’t know how some people from your school showed that, but that’s something to consider also. Also, did you describe your EC’s well and describe how they could impact the schools you want to attend? I understand it can be really stressful to compare yourself to others around you. However, it’s important to realize that the admissions officers can see and read things about other people that you don’t know. Try to relax until M10, I know it can be hard. But try to stay hopeful. ![]()
They probably received it and put it into your file. (at least for Loomis because they have an automated email where it says they wont email back and confirm stuff because ‘its a busy time of year’)
I tried to. Hopefully it worked lol!
I see, and on your essays, not many people would’ve talked about some of those unique challenges. Although debate is a very common EC, your awards would make you very favorable for any school’s debate program. I also do debate, but not as advanced as you.
and if you don’t mind me asking, what type of debate do you do?
A lot lol. Parliamentary, British Parliamentary, (I think i’m ranked like top 16 in the US for that, not a lot of people in the US do BP) Modified Parliamentary, Public Forum, Policy Debate, and Extemporaneous Debate.
That’s really impressive! ![]()
This is a really random request but is there anyone I could dm to help chance me more based on my actual essays and actual awards/ec lists I sent to the schools?
I agree with Talcility, that is impressive. I mainly do Lincoln-Douglas, but I did some PF before.
