Guys is it bad that I sent Loomis an updated awards/ecs list on Feb 20 and some other supplemental materials on Jan 15 and they never got back to me…? I also sent an email to Emma like 3 days ago and they responded 11 minutes later and then I sent my updated list 2 days ago to Emma as well and they still haven’t responded. This is really worrisome to me as my friend also sent an updated awards email a few days ago and he got a confirmation email back but I still haven’t. It’s really important info in there that could possibly help my application A LOT.
I’m also worried that even if they have received my email, what if they already went over my application?
they literally forget to respond to emails sometimes, its human nature, but reply to your sent email with a follow up asking for confirmation.
Avon Old Farms is a all-boys school in CT and it has a fairly high acceptance rate (45%), around 400 students, around 70% of the students are boarding. It’s also a rolling admissions school, if you wanted to take a look.

I’ll do that, thank you so much!!
I agree, great analogy, which I plan to steal and use frequently in the future.

I truly would not worry about any of this. Whether or not they respond to a specific update has no significance in terms of what impact that update might have on their process. These are just busy times for these schools, and they do not typically have huge staffs, and their communications outside the pre-planned group communications can be spotty and inconsistent.

lol they responded within 5 minutes saying it has been added to my profile!

Exactly. For a candidate from certain demographics, say a public school in Kenya, I think that the competition is effectively limited to that specific regional pool, not the much larger domestic pool, right?
just curious, anybody who applied or is applying did u guys make like “safeties” and things like that? idk im at a k-12 school so if i don’t get into any or choose not to go to any im just staying at my school
sorry a little bit of a late response but ik ppl gave u a lot of advice EC wise, but also just work on ur essays! essays are so important and ECs are not EVERYTHING like they need to see if you would be a good fit, ur personality, ur character, etc. which is usually conveyed the most through interviews and essays so don’t stress too much!! also ik somebody else said that applicants with a bunch of ECs who didn’t get it, didn’t not get in bc of their ECs (hope u understand my phrasing) but like a lot of admissions also matters just on if you’re the type of person they’re looking for, like they may be looking for soccer players and ppl who play trombone your round if admissions and some ppl with a lot of ECs who got rejected may not just be who they’re looking for if that makes sense (somebody correct me if i’m wrong, this is what i’ve heard/understood)

Does THAT MEAN BECAUSE I’M FROM TEXAS THAT I’M UP AGAINST OTHER TEXANS?
Thank you so much! ^-^ Thanks for letting me know to ensure they understand my character and who I am through the interviews and essays. I will take that into account.
Is it true that Emma Willard has an acceptance rate of around 35%? I read that on a website, but I don’t know if that’s true. If that’s true or it’s around that number, I personally think you have a great chance of getting into at least Emma Willard! And I believe you are definitely qualified enough for Loomis. Wishing the best for you! And yeah, as illusioncloudhuman said, if it goes wrong, you can always apply to rolling admission schools. Or apply next year as a reclass or 10th grade. But try not to stress too much right now! ^v^

I have a question for anyone: If the person we sent the emails to doesn’t respond, who do we send the email to
You want to make sure you have somewhere to go that you would be excited about. That doesn’t have to be a boarding school, it can be a private day school, your feeder public, or so on, as long as it would work for you.
I do think, however, people sometimes overlook how many great boarding schools exist, beyond the few most famous/selective. So if you are a good fit for boarding schools in general, you probably can make sure to have some boarding schools offers to consider. Of course getting aid is a necessity for some people, but again a pretty long list of schools have aid available.
I think so but that’s only if there’s way more qualified kids from Texas than other states because they need to balance their diversity of states (idk if that makes sense) …but dw I have a lot of competition too because i’m in CT. Yes its smaller but I swear almost EVERYONE in EVERY PUBLIC SCHOOL here is applying to either Porter’s, Taft, Choate, Hotchkiss, Loomis, Avon Old Farms, or Kent with a bunch of kids also applying to Groton, Andover, and Exeter (and some other schools I don’t remember)
AND ITS ALL THE OVERACHIEVERS TOO
ok sorry for my rant
Oh, is your CT public school a more competitive one? I know there are people in my school applying to Choate and Hopkins (day), but not sure about many others. Also, are people from your school mainly applying as a day student to these schools or boarding (I’m mainly talking about Choate lol)? But yeah, I get it, there are SO many competitive schools people are applying to here in CT.
You’re a great applicant, though, and your spikes in athletics, leadership roles, and debate will catch the eyes of the AOs I would assume.
There’s a mix of boarding and day applicants at my school. I think most of them are full pay and are very unique people. (For Choate and every other school) I think my school specifically is just a feeder school to Porter’s, AOF, and Loomis. I just remember the fact that last year all the kids admitted to Loomis from my school were full pay, and I applied for partial aid so hopefully that doesn’t disadvantage me.

That is right – you will not be competing against domestic applicants if you are from Kenya. You might be in a pool with other African - or even international in general – applicants. It really depends on the school and the pool.
