I am buying a new laptop, either a Macbook Pro or a Touch laptop for college. With the touch laptop I would be able to write notes in class, but I wont have all the benefits of having a Mac.

What should I buy? Is it worth buying a laptop to write notes in class? Is typing notes fine? I am a faster typer than writer, but I am majoring in Comp. Engineering and will be taking a lot of math courses, and typing math is just too much of a hassle. Perhaps I should just stick to pencil + paper for math, and typing notes for non-math courses if I buy the Mac.

If you’re taking a lot of math courses, you should look at Tablet PCs (Windows). These laptops use a stylus to take down notes and math expressions onto the screen. These Tablet PCs should not be confused with a touch screen only laptops which uses gestures to move around the screen and touch enabled programs.

Go to Xathink’s Mathjournal site to see if the kind of math classes you will be taking matches up with the kinds of math solvable with their program:
