Mail Order Sweets

I know there have been similar threads lately, but I’m still gonna give this a shot.

D1 who is a senior in college has a sweet tooth - favs include cupcakes, brownies, ice cream, cookies, chocolate or cheesecake. Would like to send her something for Valentines - thought I had something all picked out - Sugar Daddy’s brownies (Columbus Ohio) they have a nice package featuring 2 kinds of brownies “bites” that with a special code I could get for $18. Perfect! I figured of course additional shipping - what I DIDN’T figure was that they only over night ship - so shipping is as much as the item - $18 to $20!!! I just can’t do that! (meaning,I refuse to pay as much for shipping as for the item).

Ideally, I’d like to end up somewhere $30 or less total. Doesn’t have to be totally exclusive, but something she wouldn’t buy herself at the local grocery - a little splurge. I know I could put a package together and send and I may have to do that ,but thought for once, she might like something just a little out of the ordinary.

Have any ideas??? I saw the one cookie deal on another thread, but wasn’t sold on that (it was like $9.99 for 6 cookies ).

Why not buy the Groupon under Chicago today for Fairytale Brownies? My son liked these. For Valentine’s Day I am sending Mrs. Field’s Cookies this time (another Groupon that I purchased a while ago).

Northeastmom, that may be perfect! Any have these brownies before??? I haven’t bought a Groupon for another city - I can buy from anywhere once I have an account???

abasket, I have purchased a few Groupons from other cities. I have not had a problem. My son really raved about these brownies. This was not true of another sweet that I had ordered online, which he thought were just okay but nothing special. The only reason that I am not sending Fairytale Brownies again is because I want to send different things to surprise him. I do plan to send Fairytale Brownies again, as he enjoyed those a lot.

This will sound bizarre, but some of the best chocolates I’ve ever eaten are from a small company in St. Louis: Bissenger’s. The candy is made there and you can ship it anywhere. There’s an on-line website. Lots of goodies for someone who has a sweet tooth, especially if he/she loves chocolate. I lived in the neighborhood where the candy is store is located and have to say it was a wonderful, old candy shop. Plus, the candy is to die for.

If you can, try to find a “Mom and Pop” closer to the school; maybe the shipping would be less. Our go-to place is in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, called Chocolate Delicacy. I am a fan of the chocolate-covered pretzels. Everyone else here loves the chocolate-covered malt balls–NOTHING like Whoppers, trust me–We call up regularly and have them ship to us here in NJ, especially around Halloween because their candy corn is truly amazing. We discovered the place when our D was at Brown. Call them and you will find them helpful and well-priced.

I ordered my D some chocolate covered strawberries from [Shari’s Berries - Covered Strawberries, Chocolate Gifts](http://www.berries.com)

The prices were a bit better a couple of days ago (more was on sale but there still may be something in your price range. Don’t believe the free shipping offer, it’s only good if you sign up for a free trial month of some credit card protection plan.

Also, my D has a PO box number, even though things are delivered to a big campus mail room. The web site wouldn’t accept a PO box number but would accept it if I phrased it as “box number xxxx”.

They’re being delivered this Friday so I’ll let you know how they are. I had delivered her cookies for her birthday (through Groupon) but I can’t remember the name of the place. Groupon even paid for the tip!

I remember the cookies: [Insomnia Cookies](http://www.insomniacookies.com)

She loved them!

^I’ve ordered Insomnia Cookies for son several times - they have a store near his campus so they are delivered fresh to his dorm. He said they are wonderful.

Also, have had Fairytale Brownies - they are awesome.

East Greenwich, Rhode Island has another wonderful candy shop called Sweet Twist. Everything is made by the owners - three sisters who run the interesting and lovely shop, and who make the goodies:

[SweetTwist - Fine Confections and Gifts](http://www.sweettwist.com/)

Aside from all sort of chocolates and chocolate dipped-just-about-everything, they have incredible chocolate and candy coated apples that are tasty and beautiful.

Chocolate Delicacy is a much smaller, but nice shop - they’re especially great for custom-made chocolates:

[The Chocolate Delicacy](http://chocolatedelicacy.com/)

Costco dot com ships a dozen of XL Driscolls chocolate-covered strawberries for $30. No extra charges for S&H. D gave them two thumbs up two years ago. I think non-members can also buy from Costco online and pay with a credit card other than Amex.

I think I"m going to try the Fairy Brownies. Her school is in a rural area so that is why I tried thinking of Columbus Ohio spots first - not too far from her.

Thanks Northeastmom!!!

For a not so sweet treat, I sent Wolferman’s breads. They have a wide variety of offerings.

Fore extra special and extra pricey treats, ourfamily favorite is Divine Delights. Mmmmm.

@Bromfield,
I had those on a visit to St.L, and you’re right, they’re delicious.

I love this thread because I love to order online sweets (for myself  ), so I hope it keeps going.

A college classmate of mine started a company in Mass. called Dancing Deer cookies but they have brownies, too. They are SOOO fantastic and ship anywhere. Accessible on the web. Also , SEES candies are to die for. We mail them to family at Xmas…more delicious than Godiva and less expensive. We just polished off a two pound box and the kids are clamoring for another one.

^^^
I see Costco.com carries Dancing Deer products. This looks like a good possibility for my son’s upcoming birthday [Costco - Dancing Deer Baking Co. Happy Birthday Espresso Cake](http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11472851&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|3605|90019|70076&N=4043624&Mo=16&pos=1&No=) although from the description it sounds like he could eat the whole thing himself.

Another vote for Bissinger’s in St. Louis. It is the world’s best chocolate. If you order from there, make sure you try their Molasses Lollipops (dark chocolate). It is my very favorite treat.

abasket, your welcome! Let us know if she liked them! As I said, my son really liked the Fairytale brownies. I have never tried them.

All of these suggestions sound great!

Try “chocomize” online - especially for Valentine’s Day or other special occasions. Can easily personalize any type of chocolate bar and even get special inscriptions on them.

Gourmetmom–great minds snack alike! I will try BOTH places next time I’m in RI. Somewhat OT–don’t you love the Grill on Main?
