Majoring in English at UVA

How it is at UVA, is it pretty easy(I dare say, easier than Economics at UVA)? I’m looking for a major that gives a decent amount of free time. I’m coming from an Applied Economics background(lots of calculus and statistics) from another school, and I’m deterred from playing catchup with my math skills.

I know I’m asking a rather trivial question, but if anyone from UVA can give me the word out on English majors there I’d love to know.

The English dept has always been strong at UVa. I imagine it would require much time and effort, but just using a different part of your brain than math.

I believe you can get an Economics major at UVa with only two semesters of calc and one or two courses of statistics. Certainly, there are more math-oriented options in economics, but they are not required.

I’m an English major at UVa. The program is rigorous, especially if you’re transferring in (as I did). On average, most of us take three to four English classes at a time, and it is demanding. There is a lot of reading (per class), and the required writing is extensive. Nevertheless, it is rewarding.

The requirements for the major can be found here:
[Department of English at the University of Virginia](http://www.engl.virginia.edu/undergraduate/declare/index.shtml)

If you have a love for English, then I would recommend majoring in it. If you’re looking for an easy out, however, English is not the answer.
