Has anyone attended any of the making it on Broadway intensives? They have some in Cleveland that are audition prep… Wondering if they are useful?
My D did the audition workshop in CLE (as an Acting major). She thought it was far more useful for the MT kids in her group since they have more components to workshop. It is helpful to come with a number of selections as they will help you pare down your book and polish your delivery.
I thought it was offered rather late in the process (October) and think it would be much more helpful to offer in late summer - give the students time to adjust their lists. Mary Anna Dennard presented excellent workshops on how to make your list, how to make effective prescreens and how to put together your audition package. Having that workshop over the summer would have been more helpful; by October, my kids’ lists were done (with few exceptions), applications done or mostly done, and essays were drafted.
The MOST useful - they brought in auditors from Michigan, BW (and CCM? - don’t quote me - I don’t recall the third) who gave pointed and direct feedback. October is certainly NOT too late to make adjustments to incorporate the feedback!
@artskids I saw an email for this recently and I believe it is being held earlier or maybe it is an additional workshop. They may have received that feedback from several people.
EDIT Thanks for updating. I’m going to recommend this to a sophomore I know.
@IfYouOnlyKnew there were several juniors (and a few sophomores) in the workshop last year. They’ll have a leg up
They definitely will. A smidge envious…
I was also at the Cleveland College master class and found it an incredible resource to connect with that many department heads and get REAL honest feedback about your work in the room.
I also did the NYC Intenisve last summer and it was such a pivotal point for me as a performer to work with people currently on Broadway as well as Jodie (program head) and sing for them and be immersed in NYC and take intense classes everyday (business of theater, Musical theater workshop, voice and acting, and dance). You will know for sure if this is the right path for you to continue on after the intensive because it’s all so real and honest and hard fun work for what you love! I recommend this program one hundred percent!
@destiny95 I know that the NYC intensive is audition prep-but do they cover college audition prep or is it solely professional audition prep?
The Cleveland intensive was college prep
