March 30th - D-Day

*"It’s the information for which you’ve been waiting!

Please read this entire post and if you pass this information along to a friend, pass the entire entry, not just a snippet. From now on, letters of a kind will go out together. There will be no “waves” of letters. The US Post Office will obviously get some of you (Virginians) your letters first. Those of you in rural areas or far off places will obviously have to wait a few days longer for letters to arrive.

Friday, March 30th - Decision letters will be mailed
Friday, March 30th, 5:30 PM - Those who submitted applications online will see a decision on the status page of their online account. Please do not hammer the online application site. The decisions will not appear before 5:30 PM. Check time.gov if you want to keep an eye on the official time.

The Jefferson Scholarship Foundation will notify the winners of their scholarship this weekend, at the end of the selection process. If you are a Jefferson Scholarship Finalist, you know that you have been admitted, though notification from the Office of Admission will not be made early.

Some special scholarship groups will send notification letters before our notification letters. We have verified decisions, so if you receive a letter from another office awarding you something, it’s an early indication that an admit letter is coming to you.

Every year, letters sent by other offices create a flurry of phone calls to the Office of Admission. Please understand that there are no appeals when it comes to academic awards or distinctions. In addition, for privacy reasons, we cannot give out decisions over the phone. In addition, we can only talk to you, a family member, or a school official about you. Please see my post from the winter about calling the Office of Admission with questions if you are thinking of doing so.

I don’t know if knowing the notification date makes you more worried or puts you at ease, but I hope it’s the later! Hang in there!"*

http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/

thank you for that information. I hope my mailman is tired from all the big envelopes he has to put in the box out front! (smiles)

FYI, our letters are thin…all letters are thin. The big envelope comes a little bit behind the offer letter.

We’re going for speed over ceremony. An admit package would travel a little more slowly in the mail.

Yea I applied to Vanderbilt last year and they FedEx’d their big packages. I guess it was speed over prettiness. Haha. UVA’s big package came in a pretty UVA envelope, which was okay because 1. the letter came first and 2. I could check the website anyways.

You’re comparing public to private.

I meant I preferred the non fed ex’d package’s nice looks (UVA’s). The Fed Ex envelope, while it did come fast, was a little tacky. Vandy IS private, they should spring for personalizeed Fed Ex envelopes. (j/k)

“Check time.gov if you want to keep an eye on the official time.”

LOL.

I would still hop on the website 10 minutes before.

I sit on my computer and type the code to show the status.

I assure you that it won’t happen early.

If I remember correctly it was even a few minutes after my clock said 5, so really don’t sit there refreshing the page 10 minutes prior (although everyone will). I learned my lesson after doing that for early admission (I was deferred, so I got to play the stare at the UVA website game twice). Go do something at 4 and when you get back a little after 5 your status will be there (I went out to eat with my friend or something before going back to her house, checking my status, and then going out to a hockey game). A fun activity afterwards is a good plan because it will cheer you up if you didn’t get in or it will be even more fun if you did get in.

As timezones go, I’ll probably be checking my status after a long Friday night out before spring break. Wow, that should be interesting.

You noticed? I almost mentioned that.

I let the Dean do the honors last year and I had to stand over him and show him what to do to change the status display. It was kind of funny…half the staff was standing outside my office watching as he typed. They might have been cheering, too. :)

i am so nervous lol

I’m the opposite; I’m glad the date is out so I can relax for the next two weeks. Dwelling on the status/letter is just going to waste these ever-precious last high school days…

Dean J…any guess when a “thin” envelope might reach Tidewater, VA? Daughter is so nervous…doesn’t want to look on the internet, but wait for snail mail.

I’m not sure, momray. I imagine that Cville and maybe Richmond kids might see the letters as soon as Saturday or Monday. I imagine it’d day and extra day to get over to the beach.

Thanks so much for the update. I’m going to be out of the country w/o any contact for 9 days that Saturday morning. I was really hoping to find out beforehand!
