March for Our Lives

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Let’s move on from debating David Hogg and/or his message (or other political commentary), please. Several posts deleted.

$1.05= result of $number received by Marco Rubio (FL senator) divided by the number of K-12 students in Florida. Cost of one student’s life.

:frowning: No town hall meetings scheduled in our state.

I’m sincerely perplexed-how is notice of a forum for nonpartisan public discussion of an important social issue prohibited by the TOS? I trust your judgment but don’t understand.

The students in Florida researched the amount of NRA donations to Florida Senator Marco Rubio and divided the dollar amount by total nbr of students in Florida.

Answer is he received $1.05 for every student. They wear stickers shaped like a price tag $1.05

No debate here, @yourmomma – we’re in agreement. You don’t have to read about the march or its organizers if it offends you.

You answered your own question: (Emphasis mine):

That is fine, and went on successfully for 130+ posts. The posts I deleted, however, were not nonpartisan.

I have a definitely non political question about David Hogg. Why did he apply to so many Cal schools? I know he was originally from there but assume he’s now considered out of state. Maybe not? Does California have some sort of prepaid tuition plan that perhaps his parents paid into and affected his choices?

Given his relatively weak SAT scores but very decent grades and interesting EC’s (/even before the incident…he wrote for the Sun Sentinal and was a reporter for the school tv station) he seemed ripe for a test optional school lol. My guess is he’s going to take a gap year.

Ok, I will try again. There will be a nonpartisan town hall in Houston at Rice University from 5 to 7pm on Saturday, April 7th, moderated by a local news anchor and to which all registered congressional candidates have been invited to speak and discuss the topic of school safety. The hosts for the event are local high school students. Hope this passes review.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Which should be its own thread, please, as asking it here only serves to hijack the conversation.

We are having some contested elections this fall but sadly no 4/7 town hall meetings. :frowning:

No town hall around 4/7 is scheduled so far in our House district, but he holds “Sidewalk Office Hours” fairly frequently. I would guess there is less pressure to have a big meeting since he is the sponsor of H.R.2598 (Gun Violence Restraining Order Act) and was a participant in a local March. There are 6 “R” cosponsors among the 98 current cosponsors, so hopefully this is a safety measure that can be bipartisan.

A similar state-wide measure has been used 20 times in our county since it was passed in 2016 after a mass murder event near UCSB. At least one study has shown such measures to be helpful in preventing suicides.
