March Madness 2012

I was disappointed with the last minutes of the game. Thought it’d be much more interesting. Ah well.

I’m seeing a whole lot more red since this afternoon. And that’s not my cheeks, it’s my brackets.

FIL is from Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University. His career took him to Kansas, and two of his sons (H is one) graduated from KU.

Should be an interesting family dynamic!

Two good secondary storylines in the regional championships yesterday. Another match between Carolina and Kansas, whose connection goes back to the Wilt Chamberlain championship game; and of course Kentucky-Louisville, whom for nearly 40 years didn’t play one another until the governor ordered in the 1980s that the teams MUST play one another regularly. I think Pitino is still hurting from the criticism he got from UK Nation when he took the Louisville job.

Hope Louisville wins; at least Pitino tries to recruit players whom go to class. Calipari is a darn good basketball coach, but he’s got the ethics of a seedy used car salesman. Like Coach Bob Knight said of Calipari; “how does a guy who leaves two programs in ruin with major infractions and cheating get one of the top college coaching jobs in America?”

This!

I’m not counting on Louisville beating them, though. As someone said on Twitter, “How much velcro will it take to hang up Kentucky’s banner?” At least this year’s crop of players seem like decent kids with maybe one exception.

I’m a UK grad, but I share some of your concerns about Coach Cal, Lake Washington. However, please don’t exalt Pitino. His moral character is hardly spotless with his much publicized affair and payment for an abortion for the woman involved. It’s hardly going to be a game of the saints against the sinners!

^^^ Agree. I still think Ohio State has a good chance of beating Kentucky, especially if fouls get called on Davis.

Goodness no, Pitino is no Jimmy Stewart. I’m sure we’re all familiar with Pitino’s ‘a little something extra’ escapade at the restaurant. That being said, Calipari does have the horses to win this race. Pitino’s going to have to rely on pure coaching smarts to beat UK.

Only in Kentucky! D and I have plans to attend a wedding Saturday that was to start at 6:30. The bride and bridegroom are UK grads and bride is in dental school there. Her parents are avid UK fans and I believe UK grads. Bride’s older brother is a Louisville grad - undergrad and med school and her older sister is a Louisville med school grad. So, you tell there are lots of allegiances. Original plan was to have a big screen television at wedding site so basketball fans could view as desired. As of yesterday, the wedding has been moved to 5 pm so that attendees who have a rooting interest (almost everyone) can see the second half of the game. I somewhat expect there will be some who will skip the ceremony and come to the reception site at halftime so as not to miss any action.

^ I come from a family divided on Michigan/MSU allegiances. Twice now we’ve had cousins plan wedding on huge football game days. One was on a Michigan/MSU game day… and both the game AND the wedding were in East Lansing. To say that was a nightmare would be an understatement.

My cousin and I (the next two to get married by a long shot… she goes to U of M and I go to MSU) have been warned by the whole family that if we plan a wedding during football or basketball season, there will be bloodshed. Looks like early summer weddings for us.

Dh and I waited to walk down the aisle until a Dallas Mavericks playoff game ended.

Round 5, here we go!

I was born and raised in Louisville but was a Cat fan growing up. When I married DH and moved to Tennessee 27 years ago, I fell in love with the Vols. My family and many friends are “ate up” with this game today, though. I’m watching but not feeling a bit nervous since I have no dog in this fight.

If Kentucky had shot that poorly from free throw line in the Sweet 16, we would be watching Indiana now. Oh well.

This is the hard game for me to root for. I want the Big 10 to do well, but I want Kansas to win for my bracket (a win from Kansas guarantees me a 1st or 2nd finish).

Then again, I was raised a U of M fan with a deep-seated distaste for OSU. So… let’s go Kansas!

Lake Washington- the two issues that happened at the schools were not Caliperi fault and that was why he never faced sanctions. At UMass marcus Camby signed with an agent. Under current NCAA rules what Camby did is no longer a violation but either way how does a coach control that?

The second violation was that Rose supposedly had someone take the SAT for him in high school. Rose denies this still. Caliperi was just one of several dozen coaches recruiting Rose. Whatever school Rose attended would have been held responsible,

Now I have no idea if Calperi is a bum but he is not tied to any wrong doing from these violations.

Well, this isn’t fun. :(

My 6, 7, and 8 year old basketball players know how to pass a freaking basketball.

Let’s get it together, Kansas. Oy vey

Also, I’m really not too happy with the officiating this game. I think a few of those “chargers” weren’t chargers. But Kansas is killing themselves, no doubt about that.

I don’t understand why the Louisville - Kentucky game was not closer. Each won their respective brackets and both are big rivals. It makes no sense to me?

I’m okay with this game… I’ve got Ohio State in the championship…
