March Madness

Umm, CGM I don’t wander into threads that you’re active in just to gratuitously say that the topic doesn’t interest me.

^^^good point,lderochi
This Mom loves March Madness and my team isn’t even in it (NCSU Wolfpack heads to West Virginia for 3rd round of NIT on Tues. Go Pack!). I love cheering for the underdogs. My underdog team this year is Winthrop…go Eagles.

Idmom,I never use the blue smiley faces (yes, I’m that computer challenged!). Our high school’s colors are light blue/dark blue/silver. So I just try to think of those cute smileys as XXX High Sch. colors, lol.

^^^ This Mom loves March Madness and my team isn’t even in it^^^

Same here! Our house is loaded with teenage boys and 2 parents who love the game, and we watch all the games we can! UCONN is our usual
team, too…enough said, sigh!!! But I still have the women’s team!

As each Big East team goes down, we still are saying GO GEORGETOWN…All the way!

BOLSHEVIK!!!

What’s a mom to do? S’s G-town vs. YD’s BC. Tough call! At least, I can cheer for my own two schools: VCU and VT!! Both awesome in the last minute of their opening games, btw. Now, if H can just get this @#&$#% snow shoveled, we’ll be all set and H can spend the rest of the weekend watching MARCH MADNESS. Great love in the house for March Madness.

And after one round it’s:

1 SpringfieldMom 25

Good job, SpringfieldMom and DD – but it’s awfully close.

Wow! Xavier and Ohio State. Fantastic game.

Ho! G-Town, looks like you won (my bracket likes you!). I’m sure the BC/Gtown was an intense game (we didn’t see it here on the West Coast). we barely lived thru Ohio St/Xavier game…just good hoops, I have no dog in this fight/bracket.

Wazzo and Vandy in OT…all I can say is go Pac 10!

I love March Madness, no matter who’s in…always great games!

Go Bruins!!!

Oh, I celebrated a nano-second too soon for Xavier (I am the perennial underdog lover). Great game!

ALL of the drama…and the OTs…heck, it takes my mind off of my kid’s acceptances and how we’re actually going to do a visit for these…

Love me some Hoop!!

And to CGM…whom I have tons of respect for…leave those of us to our distractions. Some of us have dogs in this fight. For me and DH…whoo…lots on the line for our schools.

Bear with me. I know I’m truly spastic.

What an afternoon/evening! I love all these close games. Too bad for Xavier and my own little VCU. I had hoped both would pull it out. G-town won over BC (too bad for YD), but BC hockey is beating UNH 3-0 after two. Finally, my very loving H conquered the snow.

LDerochi, I’m going to crash and burn no matter what. Somehow in my CC bracket I didn’t go to the end of the process and do the Final Four. (I’d have picked UCLA over Oregon, Ohio State over Georgetown, and UCLA over Ohio State.) Despite my picks, the team I feel the worst for so far is Xavier. They had the game one. Either Cage(?) makes the second free throw or Xavier just simply fouls Ohio State when they’re running up the court and they never make the 3 to get into overtime.

Oh No!

Well, since we’re not playing for money and you’ve gone on record this early, I don’t think anyone will mind if you eventually become “unofficial” champion.

Terrible for Xavier. I feel lousy for Cage, but the failure to foul is dumbfounding – it seems like nobody ever does it in that situation and I can’t figure out why.

No worries, LD. I don’t feel nearly as “in the zone” about this year’s tournament as last. I thought Michigan State had a good chance of beating North Carolina and I thought Washington had a much better chance to beat Vandy.

Lots of the local experts were taking Winthrop over Notre Dame but I went with chalk and lived to repent. (Btw, anyone got an etymology for “chalk” in this situation?) Against my better judgment, I picked Arizona to suck it up at tournament time and advance a couple of rounds but they’ve showed little Defense and no character all season and I think Lute is moving well into “has been” territory as a coach.

On the other hand, I picked USC to win one game despite loathing them on general principles. TheMom just asked if Texas was going to put Vince Young into the game against them tomorrow.

Sure were a lot of very unimpressive teams today. VCU and Xavier were the best things to watch. Vandy and WSU and Indiana and UCLA and North Carolina and Michigan State all looked somewhere from south of mediocre to downright awful. Ohio State actually looked pretty good - it’s just that Xavier played well above expectations.

Yeah…I’m worried about the tendency for UNC to falter in the middle of the game only to fight their way back. My husband calls it the “Carolina Nap”. I know they finished strong yesterday and Hansbrough was on fire…but they just cannot pull this against a Georgetown or a Florida.

To me, UNC looked like Texas yesterday…one player (Hansbrough/Durant)carrying everyone’s water. Difference there is UNC is a team deep with talent; they just weren’t showing it in last night’s game until the very end.
But I’m just thrilled they are still in the game. Rooting for Texas to beat USC just because a UNC-Texas matchup will be one interesting game to see.

I thought Reyshawn Terry was also very impressive–especially considering he was sick with some sort of virus.

Mini, UCLA wins by defense. Not popular but like a pitcher’s duel, fun to watch if you don’t insist upon a homerun contest. The antithesis was the Tennessee-Long Beach game…high scoring with no defense whatsoever.

Ugh… Tennessee beat Virginia.

jack - I agree about Reyshawn. He did play well and is a tremendous team leader. But did ya see how exasperated Coach Roy was at that final 3 point shot? He had definitely told the team to lay off since Mich State’s coach had signaled the white flag…and Terry just got caught up in the moment I believe. Can’t blame him though…these are his last moments as a Tar Heel.

(After the game, I do believe that was Coach Roy was apologizing to the Mich State coach for those 3 points though.)
