Mary Matalin

^^^I don’t know if Matalin has any health issues or is just very thin but the woman deserves to be canonized for living with James Carville for 20 years. I was seated very close to him in a restaurant once and before I looked and realized who he was, I thought he was a crazy person who would possibly be asked to leave soon; very loud and hyper and just…odd.

I agree, momofthreeboys. They’re a very cute couple, and I’m fascinated by the fact that they’ve built a happy marriage despite being far apart on the political spectrum (although not on opposite ends). I also agree that she’s mellowed. This is clear from the Vogue article - she chose to move to NO, she chose the lovely old home.

Joblue, Carville said during the CBS Sunday Morning interview that a doctor serendipitiously offered his opinion/diagnosis of attention disorder while observing Carville waiting for a flight at an airport. Carville’s been on medication ever since, apparently. Carville has been true to his nickname; Ragin’ Cajun.

Here’s a link to the CBS Sunday Morning piece in case anyone was like me and didn’t catch it.
I read their jointly written book, “All’s Fair” and I recommend it. It tells the story of how they met while she worked for Bush 1 and Cheney and he worked for Climton. Very funny and interesting. I truly sympathized when I read her reaction to Bush’s defeat. So personal and sad. Anyway, very good book.

My politics are more in line with her husband’s, but I’ve always liked Mary Matalin; she’s a Croatian-American (her paternal grandparents immigrated to the US). She also grew up in a working-class family. I read All’s Fair and in it she writes about her family and her father. As I read it, I kept thinking how much my father was like hers. I definitely can identify with her background.

She’s come a long way from where she started. Also, I think she looks good for being 60 (although I thought her hairdo in the Stephanopoulos interview was not flattering).

Ugh, who wouldn’t need medication if they were married to that guy?

Seriously, I don’t think she looks bad for 60 at all.

Just saw her on another show and she looked much better. A blow out helped.

I wanted to be Mary in my 20s-40s…I wouldn’t mind being her now  she’s so sharp and I’m much mellower (some might disagree) than I was in my younger years…and my politics do tend to tilt James’ way.

My politics are more in line with Carville’s, too (except that I am much more liberal), but I love Mary. I was in the car this morning and heard part of “Wait, wait, don’t tell me” and she was the guest. She sounded fine, articulate and funny. She has an unusual speaking style that is a bit disjointed, but she always has spoken this way. I also learned that she is an animal lover, has cats and has even had a pet rat who sat on her shoulder while she cooked.

I thought Mary looked fine in the CBS interview featuring her, James (and that to-die-for NOLA home of theirs). She has always reminded me somewhat of my former sister-in-law. They both have that way of speaking that seems to employ only limited use of the lower jaw. If anyone can be said to look “gaunt” I’d say it was James. He has never reminded me of anything so much as a ventriloquist’s dummy. It’s the nose, the deep set beady eyes, those high polished cheekbones, and exaggerated lines alongside the mouth. This was especially true when he was slightly younger and thinner. I could always picture him being unfolded from the suitcase of a giant ventriloquist… The resemblance to said dummy ends there, however. He’s a man of keen wit and intelligence whom I’ve always found simultaneously amusing. The two of them together though, are most entertaining. Love them.

I’m surprised it took so long for him to be diagnosed as having ADHD. He has shown many of the classic symptoms since—well forever, apparently. I’ve long suspected that I also have a rather severe case of AD without the HD, and have had it since earliest childhood. After having a discussion with my primary care physician only days ago, she suggested I get evaluated for the disorder by an area psychiatrist, and wrote me a referral. :o

She’s a guest on Bill Maher’s show now. Carville on the panel. She does look a lot like Joan Rivers. Cheek implants and a lot of botox for starters.
