Congrats!!! My niece is back at Tulane this semester after the hurricane sent her to Harvard for fall semester. She, too, got a wonderful merit scholarship. That school is doing everything it can to recover from the hurricane.

Un of Redlands - son received the Presidential Scholarship $2,500/yr and the Music Scholarship (amount yet to be determined).

Fresno State Un - son received President’s Honor Scholarship (Smittcamp Family Honors College), $7,100/year + free laptop.

Denison Un - son is a semi-finalist for Legacy Scholarship ($22K/yr) and Mary Carr ($30K/yr). They are flying him to Ohio next week to interview.

We are excited! The Smittcamp acceptance took us by surprise. Only one student from son’s high school last year was invited to participate.

U of Montana - D awarded Leadership Achievement and Service Award $2k per year for $8K total. We don’t qualify for fin aid, so we are honored to receive this! Cause for celebration in our family. :)

Found out today S got a 11,000 scholarship and Ford grant at Fordham (Rose Hill). Probably wont be enough to attend, but very much appreciated. So far the merit award at Drew of 20,000 a year is his best offer and he’s very honored and thankful for anything with money being so tight. It’s so hard to wait for the rest of the replies!

S received:

$15K/yr at SMU

$24K/yr at University of Miami

Still waiting on a few others, which don’t really matter since he has decided to go with Miami, his #1 choice.

By the way, S’s $25K/yr is a 3/4 scholarship at the University of Miami. And it goes up to remain 3/4 as tuition increases. Curmudgeon, I believe that you’ll also find your D’s full scholarship works the same way. and it is also guaranteed for 2 years, if you have a 2.7-2.99 at the end of sophomore year, then its renewed for one more year and you can raise it to 3.0 then guaranteed for senior year. If you have a 3.0 or higher at the end of sophomore year, its guaranteed then for the junior and senior years automatically.

D got two letters from South Carolina today.

First one said: “While you have not been named a McNair Scholar Finlaist, we are considering you for other University scholarships.” …

Second letter said:" Congratulations! You have been selected as a recipient of a McKissick Scholars Award worth $2000 per year for a total of $8000 over four years of study"…

“In addition to the scholarship award you will receive a tuition reduction to the in-state rate. At the 2005-2006 tuition levels this makes the total value of your award approximately $55,000 over four years of study. Tuition for the 2006-2007 academic year will be established by the Board of Trustees in the summer.”

EAmom and I were not home when she got the news, she called us in tears because she was so excited!

Congratulations, eadad! Terrific news. I know she (and her parents!) are thrilled.

After things settled last night, got a chance to do the math. With McKissick Scholar Award and tuition remission. it will cost less for college than her private high school.

That’s like getting a raise…Yippee!

eadad

:-) (big smiley face)

Oh, and son just received a $2,500/year Creative Writing Scholarship at Un of Redlands (have to major in Creative Writing).

So as of right now, he’s received the Creative Writing Scholarship, the Music Scholarship (yet to be determined) and the Presidential Scholarship ($2,500/yr).

Redlands has been VERY generous with merit aid and it will be interesting to see what the total package will be next month.

DD also received a letter today awarding her the McKissick Scholarship at U of South Carolina, with the reduction to instate tuition. We are stunned!!

RIT just offered my daughter $6,000 per year merit aid.

Congratulations eadad and thumper1…Last year S was awarded the Coopers Award from USC and then shortly after that an invitation to join the Capstone program (sort of an honors group where they all live in the Capstone dorm together) which also included some merit money. So you may possibly have more good news yet to come from USC. H and I were impressed with our tour of USC and the attention paid to S afterwards. We were somewhat disappointed when he decided not to attend (choosing H’s alma mater instead).

eadad and thumper congratulations to you and your families. Just curious, for this USC scholarship and instate tuition do you need to keep a certain gpa, or it reverts back to oos?

taxguy congratualtions to your D.

Students must maintain a 3.0 to retain the scholarship.

Thanks. It is still a good deal.

Eadad: congrats on the in-state tuition rate PLUS more $$

Just curious: We visited Clemson last Monday and were told that they offer instate to all that have SAT over 1300 (not writing). Do you think that is true for USC, too? the fact that your daughter got instate plus more $$$$ suggests that she has great stats!

jlauer, When S applied to USC last year, we first attended a mtg. about McNairs and it was never said that oos SAT over 1300 automatically got instate tuition. However, they did say that the application fee was waived for SAT over 1300. Don’t know if that meant those apps. went in a different “pile” or not but maybe.

Well, son was just offered $12K in Merit from University of Colorado and another $12K in a research work position. While I like the thought of S going there (good Comp. Sci. dept.), he is still set on U. of Miami, so I guess the 3/4 scholarship there will at least make my checkbook not go into convulsions I guess.

Gratz to everyone else above.
