Master List of Merit Awards

Aaaaghhh … I’m going to hope that my kids never find this page … tuition may be a bargain but I sure couldn’t afford the airfare. Besides, I have one friend whose son went to Hawaii for a residency and never came back!

And Tom Selleck isn’t hanging out at the volleyball games anymore. Love Manoa!

I got the special provost’s scholarship at Case Western ($18, 600)

Thats excellent Celebrian25. Thats a sweet number $$

And $15k per year at Willamette

Hey, if your kids end up at UHawaii, you could visit THEM & think of all you could save on hotel bills (tho apartments are quite pricey in HI). There are lots of airfare specials & many airlines that service HI. ATA is one of the cheaper ones, but the cheapest one I ever flew was $149 one-way from HI to NY in 1986 (inagural fare for a major carrier). It had many stops, but it sure was cheap!

There are kids from HI who never return to HI, that’s why there are always threads about how close/far colleges should be from home.

Congrats on the merit awards–sure sweetens the offer & makes choices attractive!

Dunno–of my sibblings, ALL graduated in 4 years & went on to grad/professional school of their choice on the mainland US. My friends as well graduated promptly & went on to fine careers or grad/pro school after UHawaii. I transferred from UHawaii to UOregon while my brother transferred frm UHawaii to uber-elite in CA with no problem & graduated from there early, saving dad lots of tuition.
Numbers are just that. There are some outstanding departments & some which could use some improvement. They have an honors college as well.

Sign me up! (Oh, I forgot, I finished college a while back - darn it!)

Sign me up - I’m used to sharing a room. I wouldn’t mind doing college again.

Hey, you could go to grad school–there are many good programs & you won’t need snow gear. Think of the money you can save on wardrobe & heating bills. <grin></grin>

HI but one will need to spend more money on sunblock ;)

Unfortunately I did grad school already … maybe I could start a new career teaching at Univ of Hawaii - now that’s a thought! :)

There are actually several colleges & universities you could probably teach at if you’re so inclined–or you could always just come to vacation and/or retire. Maybe you could do a sabbatical in Hawaii?

I have to brag about my D. She just received a small ($500) scholarship from a local community organization. She had to do a lot of work for this scholarship, including writing answers to about ten questions and preparing a timed essay under the supervision of her GC. This would not be remarkable, except for the fact that she had to write the essay the day after she found out she was Deferred by her ED school (UVA). We still don’t know where she will end up next Fall - might well be Wellesley, not UVA, and $500 won’t put a dent into the Wellesley tuition, but I am really, really proud of her. Her essay was so good that she was asked to read it aloud at the presentation ceremony. I had tears in my eyes.

Many congrats to your tenacious D, merblajam! Talk about taking lemons and making lemonade! She sounds like someone I’d love to work shoulder-to-shoulder with in the future!

$25700 Trustees Scholarship at Case Western Reserve. Yet still more decisions to await

imiracle911,

over 4 years or per year?

either way, congratulations!

Woo-hoo - $17,000 per year at Roanoke!

The 25700 is for one year i think. The letter said it was renewable for four years for same amount. Oh yeh and thnx really happy to get some money. Money > acceptance i think in emotional quality.

imiracle911,

A friend’s son received that same award at Case Western. He is in his senior year now and has had a wonderful time there.

Best of luck!
