Master's Students

I was recently accepted to Cal Poly to pursue a MS in Aerospace Engineering. I applied because of Cal Poly’s reputation with California employers, but I am a little worried about a few things.

Are there even very many grad students at Cal Poly? The school awarded about 20 MS degrees in AE last year, but I’m assuming some of these came from a blended BS + MS program. I just don’t want to be one of only a handful of grad students in the department. This is because I feel it’s important to have at least a small community of graduate students (for various reasons).

Basically, I was wondering if it was rare to have a BS from another institution (Michigan in my case) and then pursue a MS at Cal Poly.

Thanks for any information.

Just to clarify…I’m okay with a small department.

I just don’t want to be in a department with only the undergraduates seeking a dual BS + MS.

Mike, I don’t think it’s rare to have BS and MS from different institute. I would rather think that’s more usual.

However, to get the exact background of enrolled graduate students, I would suggest you to call the dean’s office directly and ask for the staff/faculty in charge of graduate program. Most of the poster here are for undergraduate program, I’m not sure you can get that kind of information here.
