Match American citizen living in India [rank 1, IGCSE 8A*, A-level predicted 4A*, 1A, 1560 SAT, <$10k; physics / math]

Didn’t CWRU also come out higher net cost than the NPC indicated? It’s not just NU.

At least this poster has a great and affordable acceptance!

I have got a few opportunities in India as well. While I cannot confirm anything, there are a few I am very keenly interested in. I received Alabama’s full merit here and that makes it borderline affordable

If you had to choose now - huge Alabama or small LAC Rollins - how would you lean ?

Rollins. More cheaper

Greetings,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have my aid re-evaluated. I am extremely interest in joining this wonderful institution and this review is giving me hope. I have uploaded my most recent tax returns at Northwestern’s document submission portal, my application portal and have attached them here. I have also converted the currency from rupees to dollars.

While reviewing my CSS with my parents, I found that I have incorrectly captured my cost of living. We made a gross estimate that we realized forgot a lot of elements. We realize they should not have guessed and after the results came at twice what the NPC estimated we went through our papers to understand where our mistakes may be located. After a review of our bills, we have arrived at the correct values. These reflect our financial situation more accurately and demonstrate why the current financial assistance is insufficient. I request you to use professional judgement to re-evaluate my current situation. I have also attached my email conversation with the Northwestern undergraduate financial aid office, where I was assured that the net price calculator value would be accurate in my situation. I would be happy to provide any additional documentation required. I also request to get information as to why there is a discrepancy between the net price calculator and if there are any differences between the values in the CSS and the tax returns that could be misunderstood. I have also schedule an appointment with the financial aid office to discuss this matter.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I sincerely hope I will be able to become a member of the Wildcat community.

This is the final draft of the email I am going to be sending

I don’t understand why you are sending another email, since you have your upcoming appointment set?

Regarding your cost of living update, that is unlikely to move the needle to the degree you need it to. You are looking for NU to increase their aid package by around $24K, correct?

yes. Since my last email correspondence ended with them asking me to send our tax returns, I thought a email would help

Then I would send your tax returns with a short note saying ‘here is the information you requested, let us know if you need anything else.’

The rest of the email you drafted is not necessary as you have an appointment set up to understand how NU calculated your aid package.

okay. I will change it then

This is the only sentence that matters!

Should I attach the excel sheet of expenses and my previous email conversations with Northwestern?

IMO that is the right course of action.

Separately, when you get on the call/zoom with the FA person, I would use that as a fact finding mission. You and your parents should listen to exactly how they calculated your aid package, and then ask questions from there. I would not go in to that meeting saying something like ‘I was assured the NPC would be accurate.’ Something softer, like ‘we are trying to understand how the NPC and the actual FA package are different, can you help us with that?’

I would reply to the email from the person who asked for you tax info. Sure, you can send an updated expense list…but will that be a surprise to this person?

Alright, I will attach the tax returns, excel, email copies and a note explaining them, requesting the difference between npc and actual offer

okay

You don’t have to put that in the email, they know that, I was talking about when you get on the phone call/zoom for your appt with the FA staff.

oh. Okay thanks. WIll they know the appointment I have booked is regarding this, cause the booking page seemed pretty generic

I am not sure what more to remove. Anything else?

Reply to the email where someone from NU asked you for your most recent tax returns. Is that person a financial aid staffer?

So in your reply, greet that person, and say something like:

Attached are my most recent tax returns as requested. I also uploaded these to the document submission portal.

We have a call scheduled with [person’s name] on [date] to understand the differences between the actual financial aid package and NPC estimate.

Let me know if you need additional information.

Thank you.

Best,

[your name]

I would not send updated expenses right now because you don’t know how they were used or even if they were used in the calculation of your FA package. On your call, if/when it becomes clear they did use that info, you can ask if they would accept updated information. Note that they do not have to do so. Good luck.

Okay thank you.

The person’s name is not available. The booking form was pretty vague and didn’t even ask for purpose I think
