The same factors mean that non-direct entry BSN programs have limited space for the clinical phase, so if they admit lots of pre-nursing frosh, the secondary admission can be highly competitive (like needing a 3.9 GPA to advance to the clinical phase).
Also, ADN / RN programs at community colleges are typically competitive admission, unlike other programs that are open admission, for similar reasons.
I thought this student was 1st generation in college with refugee/immigrant parents who became upper middle class in the US⦠I must confuse her with another poster
Thanks to all who replied to my query wrt direct admission nursing spaces.
OP if nursing is still on your list then I would apply to DE nursing schools. Many of these options will be schools that you have never heard of, not prestigious enough etc. You can also apply to schools such as Pitt and Binghamton. Remember- nursing is a competitive major even at schools that might be a safety for you (ie Plattsburgh). Thatās the reality of nursing. Apply to DE and apply to a few others that are not, and see what happens.
If you want biology then apply to Rutgers, Buffalo, Stony Brook, Binghamton, BU if you insist (is it affordable? do you mind being in the city without a defined campus?), Pitt, Delaware, Wake (is it affordable?). There are a whole bunch of schools out there, some are more competitive than others.
You can be a biology major as a premed (forgot if this is an interest) or you can even do an accelerated nursing program after you graduate if you want. I know kids who wanted nursing but also insisted on popular flagships where they would not make nursing. They did ABSN programs once they graduated (this is a more costly route).
It is hard to make recommendations given the uncertainty of your major (choice) combined with questions about affordability.
CNRA programs are advanced degrees, and it is my understanding that they are very competitive and you need work experience first (BSN or ABSN).
You can do biology anywhere. You can engage in biology related research at most schools.
Alabama was suggested and itās also a good option.
I do not think the two students you are mentioning are the typical University of Rochester accepted students. I agree, this is a target for you, not a safety.
@hopefulpenguin University of Rochester is far more competitive for admissions than what you put in the post about the two students you posted about.
Please check that you are looking at the University of Rochesterā¦which I think would be a great target for you. Thatās means you have a decent chance of acceptance but not necessarily guaranteed. I think you should consider this college.
It sounds like they are talking about individual students they know. So Iām wondering if these students are actually going to Rochester U instead of U Rochester.
I have a friend who teaches at Rochester U and she says people confuse the two universities all the time.
Or it could be a case of not recognizing an amazing opportunity because itās so common for oneās circle. I remember a student whoād posted on this forum a few years back, asking: āIāve been admitted to Penn but almost everyone from my school who applies is admitted, whereas Iāve been admitted to (SEC School Honors) where no one I kbow will be going. Iād prefer (SEC school Honors) but itād mean my parents have to take loans whereas Iāve got a full ride at Penn.ā The student attended a Philly magnet or private school that had a partnership with Penn and didnāt realize how incredible it was for the rest of the country, and it took some convincing!
U of Alabama and U of Michigan are the 2 public schools her cousins attend and OP listed that her family feels those are a waste of intelligence and not worthy of OPās presence.
Stop spinning my words. Never said that, in fact I said the opposite?
I love those schools, I love my cousins, nobody thinks they suck. Youād have to be crazy to think that UMich is a bad school. āNot worthy of my intelligenceā give me a break I know I kinda suck but thats too far. I think my family is wrong when they say public schools are generally not good but I have very little autonomy and they just shoot me down whenever I say I wanna go there.
You clearly think I am an egoistical spoiled brat who sucks but im not. Yeah I dont have perfect scores or anything but I have been through hell in the college process. People have told me to get help but you canāt run away from college. I have nightmares about this stuff. I just donāt want to end up homeless or something. Give me a break!
Im just a kid. You guys are demonizing me like crazy and I canāt even escape it. Sorry for wasting your time, sorry for upsetting you, but now people are claiming im doing stuff im not doing and saying things im not saying.
That is why I am here- I donāt know whats good for me and im asking for help and people are getting upset with me for not knowing what is good for me! How am I supposed to recognize whatās good and whats not when I get told contradicting advice. People are going on about how wrong my belief is when I donāt have a belief in the first place. College admissions is terrifying. Like Iāve-been-put-on-meds terrifying because I donāt want to make one mistake and boom my life is ruined.
