I will probably be looking at WUE schools primarily.

Among WUE schools, UNM (U New Mexico) could be a great one to add to your list if you are serious about premed. It’s a low cost option with WUE, and apparently gives you an admissions boost at its relatively affordable med school. See @WayOutWestMom’s posts for more info:

The WUE scholarship will get you in-state tuition rates which will put your costs at around $24K for tuition, fees, housing and meals.

There is a hospital and med school directly across the street from the main campus (and very close to the freshmen dorms) for volunteering.

UNM’s med school is not THE least expensive in the country. (That honor goes to one of he TX public med schools.) But it is in the top 5 least expensive. My daughters both went there, had a great experience and are now practicing medicine if their first choice of specialty. They both went to strong/prestigious residencies too.

As of this application cycle, UNM now give preference to UNM grads even if they are OOS residents.
