What would be a good school for me?
Budget?
Bard.
Look at Clark University in Worcester, MA. I know a quirky D&D student who is very happy there.
William and Mary
Were you able to visit any of the schools on the previous thread Help me narrow down schools to visit [A-/B+, likely history major]? When I saw the bit about D&D I thought of that other thread and then realized that it was a previous one of yours! If there were things about those schools that attracted/repelled, it would be helpful to share so that posters can have better insight in terms of what is desired.
Many good ideas in your prior thread and above. If Catholic schools work consider Fordham Rose Hill and other Jesuit schools – they are mostly mid-sized urban schools and you may enjoy the core curriculum. Another idea could be URochester.
This was one of my first thoughts too!
Can you please clarify if you are the parent or the student? Account sharing isn’t allowed, as per TOS.
Maybe Goucher in Maryland. Bard. SUNY Geneseo. Clark U, for sure. Lewis and Clark in Oregon.
With mostly A’s and B’s and 1300 on your PSAT, you may not be competitive for very selective schools. I think William and Mary is a big reach.
There is an excellent list of schools that might fall within range on this thread: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/colleges-with-admit-rates-of-20-59-schools-you-ve-liked-and-why-no-replies/
Absolutely agree with Bard.
Other thoughts (though I agree with Clark above for sure).
Champlain, Ithaca, UVM (though a state school it doesn’t seem “ra-ra” as most?), American (less on e_sports side, but history and modul un interests would really align)

Maybe? This student is attending high school in the UK. My understanding is that the British schools don’t have the rampant grade inflation that we have here. William and Mary has a truly holistic admissions process. Without knowing the context for the GPA, it is impossible to say whether it is a big reach or a target. My son is a current William and Mary student. His girlfriend was accepted out of state with a 3.6 unweighted with high rigor from a top private school. She showed a lot of interest, did the interview and made it clear to her admissions officer that William and Mary was her first choice.
I would also add that there is likewise no context for a 1300 PSAT score. My kids didn’t do any prep for it and scored in the 1300s. With minimal test prep, they both scored significantly higher on the SAT and ACT.
“Quirky D&D Geek”
Check out: Vassar College, Wesleyan University, Kenyon College, & Bates College. All are excellent schools without big time sports.
Maybe a Google search of “US Colleges with D&D Clubs” might help.
University of Denver’s largest club may be the D&D club.
Check out Oberlin, Earlham, Beloit College, Knox College, Muhlenberg College.
Brandeis! My daughter goes there and loves it. The kids are all quirky and smart, and there is almost zero greek life and no football team. The school has very few set requirements, so you can easily take classes in a variety of subjects (unless you are a hard-core science major, which can be more restrictive). It’s also just outside of Boston so there’s a shuttle that takes students right from campus into Boston on weekends. My daughter is so happy and I can’t say enough good things.
Targets for you could be Clark, St. Olaf, Wooster, Wheaton (in MA)
Check out Beloit College in Wisconsin. They have the Beloit Science Fiction and Fantasy Association (BSFFA) which also has its own dorm. The group has been active for decades and is all about D&D, Dr. Who, etc. and is generally a quirky space welcoming of all. I went to Beloit years ago and received a top notch education, it’s one of the schools in the Colleges That Change Lives list. Great academically and a very diverse, liberal vibe. New science center and a pretty campus. About 90 minutes from Chicago.
Beloit
St Olaf
Knox
Eta… Just saw that my first thoughts have already been listed lol
so… Thirding
