I would say NTU has the better program. From just a cursory look at HKUST’s curriculum, I only see course that cover topics on P and FM, and no mention of any life con courses. Some topics for MFE might be covered, but not to the extent of which it will be tested. No coverage of exam C material either.

NTU has at least the first 4 exams covered for the SOA, and offers exemptions in the Institute of Actuaries if you want to go the British route.

More details can be found here:

[SOA - Society of Actuaries](Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University | SOA)

That’s not the major I take I take math science

Bumping this thread

In that case, I doubt it matters, since math courses are going to be the same. Go with the one that has more prestige.

However, if you are interested in becoming an actuary, a school with more act sci courses will be beneficial.

I see… I’ll check the courses I have to take then

Btw, what act sci courses I need?
Do I need external learning material before I take the actuary test?

There are no educational prerequisites to take the actuarial exams. You can take them at any time.

You may, however, need some “external learning” to pass them ;)

Fwiw, HKUST has much better known faculty than NTU.

You will almost always need external learning before you take the test. If classes are graded like an actual exam, then 60% of your class will fail, and often times nobody gets an A!

The course title will be different between schools, so I would dig through the course descriptions, if they’re available, to check for classes along the lines of: calculus based probability, time value of money, financial derivatives, asset pricing, Black Scholes, Stochastic processes, life contingencies, markov chains, and credibility theory.

Taking a few risk management classes wouldn’t hurt either.

Still… I can’t decide between them lol

Sorry…I can’t make your decision for you…Good luck!

Which country has better prospect for jobs like actuary or quantitative analyst?

I want to have a job like those jobs haha

where do you want to work in the future?

I still don’t know yet, but I’m thinking of taking master degree in USA top university.
