Damn. So not theme of imperial science fiction? I HATE THIS PASSAGE!

There were two reading sections with 5 sent comps, so one of them had to be the experimental. I think it was the one that had short passages about Thoreau’s “Walden,” because I felt like at least one of the questions had answer choices that were completely mutually acceptable. So I’m hoping this was the experimental section.

The reading section with 8 sent comps was definitely not experimental. This was the one with the long passage about Imogene and Marya. I thought this passage was easy, but this section had some tough sent comps. Seriously, how many of you knew “bowdlerized?” I got it right by process of elimination.

The last math problem, #16 in section 9. Somebody explain. It was a square with sides of 12. A circle was inscribed not quite entirely within the square. The sides of the square were divided into thirds. On each side of the square, the circle came outside of the square within the middle third. Question was: what is the area of the square. A) was 36pi. I knew it had to be more than that, because the diameter of the square had to be slightly more than 12. But I was out of time and guessed the next largest answer, which was B) 40pi. Two of the other answer choices were 54pi and 72pi, I think.

lol yeah thats what i put…“imperial theme of science fiction.” but i guessed.

Can someone please explain to me if it’s possible the space one was expirimental?

i also got “bowdlerized” right by elimination.

i didn’t have a passage on walden.

Did anyone get the question; there were like two semi circles; it said: find total perimeter and the answers were like 12 pi 16 pie and 15 pie etc… !!!

By the way, to solve that circle/square problem (40 Pi answer):

Make a triangle with one side as the side between two markings (length 4) and one parallel to the side of the square all the way up to another marking (length 12). The hypotenuse will be your diameter.

Using pythagorean theorem, 12^2 + 4^2 = 160 = Diameter squared

(d/2)^2 = d^2/4 = r^2 = 40

So 40Pi

zetafunction: I’m pretty sure that the space/science fiction passage was in the 20min reading section, so that means it is not experimental. sorry. I thought it was hard too, particularly the question about the meaning of commencements and elections.

inmemoryofsl: Nice! That definitely means the Walden passage was the experimental.

kingsfan: i dont remember a question like that in any of my math sections…

2400SAT: if walden was experimental for you, do you mind putting up the passages that you encountered, so that we can figure out which one was experimental for us?

i think the congo passage was the 20 minute one actually

It seems that everyone had the Sci Fi, Congo, and Coffee House passages.

thanks Zeta on the 40pi. I got it right. got lucky by guessing the next choice greater than 36pi.

inmemory: you’re 100% right, Congo was last. my bad. this means that I’m pretty sure that the science fiction long passage followed the Thoreau short passages–boy I hope that was experimental. I think it was. There were questions in both those passages that had unfair answer choices. Can anybody remember what passages were in the OTHER reading section with 5 sent comps?

****ing sweet. that means i only have one confirmed question wrong (i’m right about the pronouncements thing, unless i misread the other answer)

does everyone remember a really easy long-passage about an Indian kid who worked in a “beggar’s kitchen” and was apprenticed to a clockmaker? I think this was one of the passages in a reading section that had 5 sent comps.

y’all were talking about the “calculated” question in the college girl passage.

I put taciturn because it mentioned several times that she talked only when she had to.

I remember a specific line it said, ‘when she talked, and then only if she had to…’ or something like that.

I had all of these questions, but four math sections… wouldnt math be experiemental since there were 4??

i no this is the rong forum but if on the essay i did not have time to do a conclusion will i got lots of pts marked off???

ct girl: YES

BTW
what story or passage was the experimental section (hopefully the dual passages)!

ctgirl, i had the same thing… 4 math sections. 2 grid-ins.

anyone rmbr a math question that was how many solutions to m are there to this equation and then it had choices like NONE, 1, 2 ,3, or More than 3.

what you put?

none. pretty sure.
