My DD finally got off her rear … put in six college applications (5 ivies) and McDermott application these past three days. I am doubtful she progresses or pegs an ivy as the last second quality of her applications will shine thru.
She has all the McDermott “qualifications” checked and we live in a state the seemingly has never had a McDermott scholar. dd seemed excited about the McDermott opportunity when I finally got her to check it out. The travell opportunities with your McDermott cohort were big for her.
However, it seems we will just have to wait for those five $90 embossed rejection letters for DD to get real on college selection. UTD and UCF nm packages tend to make me feel her final decision will come down to a choice of those two in the end.
Looks like UT Austin’s 40 Acers scholarship weekend is the same weekend as UTD’s McDermott so anyone in the running for both will have to pick which to attend:-)
Now February 1 seems to be so far away! Time has ground to a halt for me, although my son hasn’t even mentioned McDermott lately so I think he’s doing fine. He will of course be disappointed if he doesn’t make finalist, but he knows how competitive the McDermott selection process is and he knows he did the best he could on his application.
Since some received their emails 2 days ago, does anyone know if all finalists have been notified? Wondering if we should just wait for the rejection email or still hold out hope.
While I suppose there’s still some hope, at this point my son is pretty much assuming he will receive a rejection tomorrow. Since the notices are going out by email I wish they could have sent them all on the same day; I’m sure they must have their reasons for the staggered notification process but it would have been nice to have acceptances and rejections sent at the same time. Oh well.
And to you as well @dfin2013! Also congrats to @ramdroid and @1110002 on becoming finalists! McDermott is a wonderful program, best of luck at finalist weekend.
We were hoping to get the news early, but it looks like it must come out late in the day. Like the rest of you who have not been notified early, we anticipate a negative result also. DD has an interview today so I will not remind her to check on McDermott until evening.
Congrats to those selected as McDermott is a great opportunity. Good luck to those of you making finalist.
DD may still end up at UTD if the schools that accept her (ColSchM and USC so far) all turn in to NFW. The NMF scholarship is still a strong enticement for DD to attend UTD.
Yes, McDermott wasn’t a deal breaker for my son either @sekere62. The CV honors program and NMF scholarship are enticing enough, plus he has been invited to test for the CS honors program which would be a nice add if he makes it. He’s handling the anticipated McDermott rejection well; hopefully that holds up once he receives the actual rejection.
