Hi, I just had a few of questions.
How many students apply usually?
How many are invited to interview? Would it be safe to assume that if we haven’t received a finalist notification by January 29, we were not invited to scholars weekend? I know some have received notifications already.

@6ofhearts I havent heard of the exact numbers for this year. In the past, I believe it was ~500 apps, 50-60 invited to finalist weekend. You don’t need to assume anything. Everyone will receive an email notification whether they are finalist or not by 1/29.
@kims3blessings Thank you! It is an exciting time. I’ve applied for dermatology. My last interview will be this week, then it’s the waiting game.
I’m sorry, I should’ve worded the question differently. I guess what I’m asking is-are finalist notifications released earlier and rejection notifications released on 1/29? This is actually more out of curiosity than anything else
@6ofhearts Historically, the selection committee continues to meet until the notification deadline. So no assumptions should be made about decisions, invitations, or relative timing of finalist/rejection notifications.

My son has not. I am assuming that means he is not a finalist.
my d has still not received an email, does that mean she did not get it?
Bummer. My son just got the official email and he will not move forward with this program. Best of luck to everyone else! 
Looks like the new incoming class of scholars have been posted on their website. 2 part SAT score of 1543… wow

Hello, I don’t know if there are any statistics for this, but do you know how many students apply for this scholarship annually? Also, how many are selected? Thank you very much
For the 2015 scholars, they stated they had 1400 applications and chose 25. For 2016, they chose 27 but did not mention the number of applicants they had.
@ech029 From what I’ve heard, in the past few years 1400+ applications are started and ultimately 450-550 are submitted. From there, around 60 are invited for interviews. You can go to the mcdermott website to see the number of scholars each year. It varies from year to year
Has anyone heard back for Finalist Weekend invites for the 2017 McDermott Scholarship?

@bigreddawgie Their e-mail earlier informing me of semifinalist status said that they would inform us by February 1st, which is like a week away. That’s the only reason I was asking
My son was notified this evening that he is a finalist.
I was notified this afternoon that I am a Finalist, too!
