McGill Acceptance Decisions Class 2023 (Entering 2019)

Thanks, SwimmingDad! The rent sounds tempting. I was speaking with a McGill grad (my generation) the other day and she noted that a lot of Canadian kids arrive at McGill with the equivalent of an extra grade of high school, are therefore a year older and more mature on the whole. Did your son notice anything like that?

@Shrink66 Kids from Quebec do something called CEGEP which is two years…the equivalent of US 12th grade and Freshman year of college. So they enter as U1 and stay for three year: U1, U2, and U3. Kids from the US and most of the world enter as U0 (unless you have enough AP credits to be a U1) and stay for 4 years: U0, U1, U2, and U3. The dorms are primarily filled with U0 kids from around the world since you live on campus for one year and then go off campus.

The thing that is interesting about McGill: I think, for the most part, the kids step up (maturity). It’s part of the culture and the kids just do it. My son last year got this horrible case of pink eye…both eyes. He gets on our weekly Sunday FaceTime call and I say “what’s going on with your eyes?” He tells me and of course I start going into dad mode. “Dad, her you go to the pharmacy for pink eye medicine.” Back to dad mode. “Dad, I went two days ago, talked to the pharmacist, got the medicine, and I’m on the mend.” I was shocked…and pleased.

@Shrink66 Until about 1995 high school in Ontario went through grade 13. That is an odd concept for an American. Ontario has since reformed to the standard grade 12 structure.

My son
US high School, GPA 4.3/5, ACT 31, several APs with 4 and 5 grades
has been “Reviewed - Decision Pending” for 2 programs both in the Faculty of Science since shortly after sending the midyear grades (all As) on Feb 7. Is it just a matter of waiting at this point? Worth sending an email to servicepoint or they will just tell us "wait’? The timeline says “decisions for US high school from Dec to May” but the US colleges want an answer (and money) by May 1!

@momfromitaly I would recommend calling ServicePoint instead of emailing but not sure if you would get a definitive answer. My guess is that your decision should be received by 3/31.

Do you get an email letting you know that you’re admitted or do you have to also constantly check your minerva account?

@ollaobied You should get an email that a decision has been made.

hey guys,
I applied to McGill as an international student in October. in minerva it was saying ready for review until last week it changed to further review required. in the checklist they wanted me to upload my ielts although the ielts office sent them a copy in October. however further review required didn’t change and it almost been a week. if you guys can help me what is that mean that would be wonderful.

Applied 10/18
Accepted 3/5/19
BA/BS Interfaculty Program
US Citizen
5.19 GPA Weighted (7 AP Classes, rest of classes are Honors)
35 ACT, 36 STEM Composite
Scholarship $3000

@emirkanaydin I would probably just resend them your ielts score via self-reporting. It’s odd that they’ve asked for it even though you already had it sent a long time ago. But the best option is to just follow with their request and notify them of your score again. Or you could email the admissions office and ask about it. Good luck!

@emirkanaydin I’m on further review required too despite having submitted my documents. In the checklist, did a new row appear asking for your IELTS, or was it something in the Notes column? My checklist has 2 rows, one for Transcripts and one for Certificates, both of which I submitted, but the Notes column still has text in it. I wonder if that’s indicating the things they want me to send them (even though I’ve already uploaded them)

it says additional requirement in requirements section and it also says upload ielts near it at the notes column. although I submitted it again almost a week ago the further review required thing didn’t change. everything in my checklist is uploaded but the application status hasn’t changed. do anyone have any idea about when is it going to change?

Has anyone from Ontario received an offer to either Faculty of Concurrent Education or Arts? My status for all programs changed to 'ready for review’a month age. My top 6 average is 91%

@student20192023 Faculty of Concurrent Education ???

Faculty of Education. either secondary concurrent education or concurrent kinesiology/physical education

When applying for the McGill Entrance Bursary (the financial aid bursary, not an entrance scholarship), they ask you how much $ you are requesting from them. Does anyone know if the Entrance Bursary is all or nothing (meaning that they either give you exactly how much you request or nothing at all), or would they consider giving part of what you requested if they think they cannot give you the whole amount?

@kimtaehyung A bursary is a need based grant. It is based on your family finances that you documented on your application. They do not give you aid based on what you want.

@TomSrOfBoston I am aware. I may have worded my question badly so let me try again.

Even if it’s need based, you have to submit an application for the bursary. On the application, they ask “Please enter how much financial assistance you are requesting to help cover your educational costs for the academic year.” And there’s a blank spot to enter a monetary value.

I am wondering, is all or nothing? Meaning that they would either give you exactly how much you request you need or nothing at all).

Or would they consider giving part of what you requested? Meaning that they don’t think your financial need is as big as what you requested, but you do have financial need, so they would be able to give you not what you requested, but they would give you some money at least.

Thanks!

They will give you what they determine your need to be. What you enter as the amount you need is irrelevant. If you request $50,000 and they determine your need to be $20,000 it may tell them that you will not likely attend If admitted.

Will McGill email you when they have your admission decision ready?
