McGill, Maryland, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Chicago

If you got admitted by these schools, where would you go? Can you rank them for me according to “your” opinion of which one would be more prestigious. (Arats and Sciences by the way)

McGill Univ., Univ. Maryland, Rutgers Univ., Univ. Pittsburgh, Univ. Chicago.

Please RANK THEM FOR ME…

My Rank:

 1. University of Chicago
 2. University of Maryland
 3. McGill University
 4. Rutgers University
 5. Pittsburgh University

Chicago is #1 without a doubt.

My personal rank:
U of C
McGill (I’d love to go to Canada)
University of Maryland
Rutgers
University of Pittsburgh

U of C
Mcgill (love canada too)
U Pitt
U Maryland
Rutgers

agreed!!!
and McGill is in Montreal, not a very nice part of Canada. I had a chance to visit and I thought the people there were very impatient-maybe it’s the fact that i couldn’t speak french lol

Chicago, UMD, Rutgers, McGill, Pittsburgh

Hmmm, so everyone thinks Chicago is #1. I thought some would put McGill there. Also, I find it interesting that people agree in that UMD is better than Rutgers and Pittsburgh. Thank you guys! And keep on commenting please, coz I have to make a choice between them eventually :(

DEFINATELY MCGILL

Montreal’s the cultural, economical, and political center of canada
PLUS, it’s the second largest city in the country.

I went to mcgill two years ago in the summer. The campus was really lively, since it’s right in downtown financial district.

Most canadians consider mcgill as the “Harvard of Canada” (so you see what I mean by its prestigiousness in the country)

Yet, I do agree that U of C is also a great choice (has one of the top law schools in the country)

U of C is first…no doubt…McGill is second no doubt…the rest of them…I have no idea…lol

University of Chicago

McGill

Rutgers (at least here in NJ, Rutgers >>>>>>> Maryland)

University of Maryland

Pittsburgh

I’ve lived in Canada, and the United States , 8 years on both sides, so I think i can give you an unbiased ranking. In my opinion, McGill surpasses Chicago for an overall undergrad experience. Montreal is a great city, and McGill’s campus includes everything great about montreal. It’s situated on Mont Royal and is at the heart of one the most diverse cities in the world. McGill’s academics are probably top 10 in north america, and even by internation rates, it is a better value to attend McGill.

thats crazy. Chicago is a top 15 school worldwide and has a countless number of programs in the top 10.

its simply a great school.

University of Chicago

…

McGill University

University of Maryland

Rutgers University

…

Pittsburgh University

Chicago is #1 without a doubt

I’m afraid Toronto holds at least the “economical center of Canada” title (it’s also the center of the universe, but that’s another story). When it comes to culture and politics, there isn’t so much a center as a Montreal-Toronto dipole.

But yeah, McGill is a great university, and is great for undergrad no matter where you want to go for grad school (assuming that is the original poster’s wish).

And bobbobbob, I do believe CNI includes more than undergraduate program quality in the definition of “overall undergrad experience”. For example, Montreal has more student per capita than any other major city in North America (it surpases Boston by a narrow margin), so it’s very student friendly. Can you say the same for Chicago? Well, not that it can’t be… Anyway, my point is that “best overall undergrad experience” between McGill and Chicago is more debatable than you seem to think.

the #1 canadian u like mcgill doesnt even come close to making the top25 us school

Vex
did you actually get accepted to all of these school or are you just gathering information?

Yes, I got accepted by these schools. These were all I applied together with MIT. But MIT rejected me. :frowning: So I have to make a choice between these…

Well, despite your chauvinistic attitude, the Times Higher Education supplements ranks McGill in the top 25 in the world, and the Institute of Higher Education, Shanghai Jiao Tong University puts the University of Toronto in the top 25 in the world. So, even though there is no denying that the top US schools are among the best in the world, you can’t pretend that the top canadian universities are comparably mediocre.

Well, Vex, since you were accepted at all these schools, what are you looking for in particular? Maybe everyone can adjust their suggestions to suit your needs.

If I were you, I’d definetely choose Chicago. Just saying.
