McGill, Waterloo or Bristish Columbia University for Civil Engineering?

Hey just wondering what the best university would be for civil engineering. I plan on getting a masters degree and specializing in structural engineering. Thanks

Out of curiosity, why was UofT not considered?

Depends on what you want out of your degree - McGill will give you a more general program, as opposed to Waterloo which is a very intense engineering degree with the co-op and all, you’ll be busy. UBC I think has a decent program as well, personally I might be biased because I want to go to McGill engineering so I can have time to do a minor  But Waterloo civil eng isn’t nearly as great as the computer/electrical engineering there, but it’ll probably get you a job and work experience.

Im going to second EcceHomo also consider uoft. We have SKULE spirit :P. But u cant go wrong with those schools. Personally if mcgill had industrial eng i would love to go there for school. It really comes down to personal preference.

Big city? Uoft or Mcgill.
Work experience and can deal with the ugly campus, or have friends to party with at Laurier then Waterloo.
And i reali cant comment on UBC.

But go to uoft for masters. Research is what uoft is known for especially in engineering.

I’m taking civil at queen’s university. You should look into it. It’s much more difficult to get in (has the highest average enterance grade after mcgill) and is very advanced. Queen’s is very research based so you get to meet a lot of profs and get involved in their stuff in undergrad. I have no idea about mcgill’s program but I heard UofT has a good program too. The thing about queens is though, it’s kinf of an exclusive school (like dartmouth let’s say) and alumni support is huge when it comes to applying for jobs.

They are all about the same; if you do well in any of them, you can go to graduate school anywhere.

I think some deciding factors would be:
Which is the most convenient for you? Which is closest to home?
Where do you plan to work after graduation? Pick the one local to the city in which you plan to work afterwards.

Lol Your fitting the stereotype of queens students. Queens isnt “exclusive” although its a damn good university.

What do you guys think about Western Vs. McGill for civil engineering?

I would pick Mcgill just to be in montreal. But reali it depends on if you want to live in a city or not. Its really difficult to rate undergrad programs since most universities care about research. This is especially true of larger universities like Mcgill and Western.

If your asking in terms of “prestige” and rank and all then mcgill especially if u live in states. For some reason some americans know about mcgill but i doubt they will know western’s engineering program.
