How difficult is it to get into McIntire once at UVA? Do most people that want to go into the School of Commerce gain acceptance? Also, can you be in the Echols honor program for the first 2 years of undergrad before transferring to McIntire? Also, does it look bad if you want to gain acceptance to the honors program but but your academic interests as Commerce on the Common App?
Yes, you can be in Echols and go to McIntire. No, I do not see how stating you are interested in Commerce will hurt your chances at Echols.
If you really want to get into McIntire, you should be able to get in. The average acceptance GPA was 3.71 this past year. It isn’t easy, considering the average GPA is ~3.2, but you will get in if you want in bad enough!
McIntire acceptance rates are around 60-65% depending on the number of applicants. If you work hard, complete the prerequisites, and show interest through some ECs you should be fine.
The only hiccup with entering the Comm school as an Echols scholar is that you’ll lose your priority course registration. Still, that should be less of an issue since you won’t have as much competition for your Comm classes as you would for general arts & sciences classes.
