I’m a HS Senior deciding between UVA and UConn. I have interest in Finance so I’ll be applying to McIntire if I decide to go to UVA (leaning that way). One of my concerns with McIntire is that the schedule for 3rd years especially is brutal with ICE. My question is: Is it possible to study abroad if you attend McIntire? Would I have to do that my 2nd year, or not at all? Studying abroad is something I really want to do because I’m going to minor in Spanish so this is an important factor for me. Anyone with experience in this please help!! Thank you!
I believe that you would have to do it during the summer after first or second year or possibly during your second year. Remember that you also have several prerequisites that you need to have done when applying to McIntire, including Economics, stats, and two semesters of Accounting. I am assuming that you realize that getting into Mcintireis very competitive so there is no guarantee. Many students self select out of applying because their GPA is too low and they know they won’t get in. So, the applicant pool is quite strong. If you choose UVA I would recommend planning out your schedule carefully as well as working with your Academic Advisor. Good luck with your decision.
Yeah when I visited McIntire the tour guide said she studied abroad after second year. I think I might be able to swing doing it during 2nd semester 2nd year, but it would be awfully tight. That’s especially the case given all the requirements of getting into McIntire. I’m very much away of the competitiveness of the program which is one of the things making my decision extremely difficult. Thanks for your help though, you’ve pretty much confirmed my suspicion that the traditional semester abroad during your 3rd year isn’t going to happen.
