Meeting Another CC Poster IRL - Stories?

I’ve seen a few posters mention in passing that they have become friends with other CC posters after meeting IRL. I’d love to hear stories. Currently a CC poster in my area and I are figuring out a time to meet for coffee, so I’d love to hear how it went for others!

Anyone?

I’ve met poster multiple times. Usually we’ve been a fairly big group. One time we had people from DC to Maine meeting in Hartford. I was impressed with all those intrepid drivers! It’s nice to put some faces to familiar names. No real surprises.

I’ve met a lot of CCers over my years on CC and it’s been great! Some are now dear friends and others provided a fun lunch or short meet up. It’s such an intelligent and fun group of people (well, mainly) that the odds are in your favor!

Exactly a year ago 4 CCers came here to my town and we all ran a race. Two of the women stayed at my house. One of my co-workers said, “Wait. 2 people you only know from the internet are staying at your house? You are going to be murdered!” We had a blast.

Yes, it was nice meeting mathmom and the others!

YouDon’tSay lives just a few blocks from my sister. We had already met IRL. Then one day, when I was visiting Sis from out of state, we were out in the front yard. YDS walked by! Such a small world. My dad used to take her boys to football games.

When my son was going through his first mental health crisis, it was my group of CC friends who rallied around me the most. They sent me lots of encouraging note and small gifts. It meant the world to me. I spoke at the NAMI Texas conference due to one of them, too!

My kids went to Dartmouth and U of Miami. I met up with several parents from CC many times over their college years, and I still stay in touch with a few people I met. We scheduled our CC meet ups over parents weekend. We had quite a bit in common, and I really liked everyone I met!

Yep. Met her while our girls were seniors waiting to hear results. We met prior to doing admit day at one of the schools. Had a fantastic time with her at the admit day. We are still in contact and meet for lunch whenever we can. She’s my amazing sounding board and has become a wonderful friend I can totally depend on. We clicked immediately. She’s one of the few, down to earth, genuine people I have met. When ya click, ya click! Love you @madredos!!!

Ok…how did I miss a meet up in Hartford! Let’s do,that one again.

I’ve met a number of folks IRL, and so have my kids. DD gladly gave private college tours to CC parents and kids at her college. DS toured with a group, and a couple of CCers went out of their way to see him.

Funny, CC couples have stayed here more than a couple of times. And we had great fun!

I consider some of the folks I’ve met very good friends IRL, and I’m so glad we met.

Most of the parents I have met were from the boarding school forums – their children attended the same BS as my D. Over the years we would agree to meet at parents week-end or other school events. Great group of people.

There was also a poster who was a student at my D’s boarding school who I got to know from CC – he was 2 years ahead of my D. I was always so impressed with him and the way he interacted with adults on the forum. He never told me his name but I showed my D some of his posts and she figured out pretty easily who he was. She introduced herself to him and told him she was HarvestMoon’s D. They became friends and she actually ended up going to his senior formal with him. I did eventually meet him and he was equally impressive in real life!

I gave a tour of OU to a poster and her daughter. The daughter ended up in two of my classes during my final semester of college. She regularly helped me out when I was struggling with certain math concepts.

My daughter’s first private instrument teacher at her college was a CC poster!

I met a special mom and son at my son’s UG campus.

I loved our SE FL meet up, and wish we could have more. (& I’ve lost the extra pounds since then)

lol @MomofWildChild - I had been planning to post right before I go for coffee with the CC poster from my town that if I never posted again it would be because she murdered me!

I organized a San Diego get together the year after we moved here. There were eight of us and it was great to meet everyone. I was surprised and delighted that some people drove down from Orange County. I already knew one local since I’d made contact off board for advice before we moved.

Never have. But D1 has met the D1 of another well known CCer. They went to the same school and my D1 was recruiting for her company at her alma mater a year after graduating. CC’s D was a finalist and my D1 took her and the other finalists to dinner. At a pretty nice place too! Haha

Ccer’s D chose another company.

Now that’s funny. I think I’d trust some on here more than my own family, we probably know more about each other.

Been on CC a long time, but haven’t met any posters IRL. (Not many in my area.) I feel like I know quite a few, though, and have shared some pms on various issues over the years.

@mstee and I got together a couple of times when she moved to my city. Then I moved away. I have several Facebook friends I met in CC (so sorta IRL).

But my favorite story is the parent who bought a student poster shoes for his interview when he went to NY and didn’t have the right clothes. Can’t remember who now, but it was awesome.

When you meet IRL do you continue to use CC names?

One of the parents in my “Class of” forum lives in the city where D goes to college. I met her over accepted students’ weekend, and we got along instantly. She gave me a tour of the city, took me to dinner and pointed out the shopping center close to D’s school where we’d find everything she could possibly need. She’s been an invaluable resource of information, an emergency airport pick up for D, a “chicken soup” mom for her and is even storing D’s stuff for us over the summer. Without CC, this all could never happened. Some other of our group have met and it’s all gone quite well. We do all use our real names.

I use their real names when I see or chat with them. But must admit that in my head I use their screen names.
