Oh, I met Mstee and Oakland Mom in the Bay area about ten years ago when I was in town, and I met a Mom in my state, she lives maybe two hours away and we have lunched occasionally. I met a CCer in Chicago and stayed in her home, most generous and kind and helpful, as well as one in NM who hosted my DD and then met me for a shared meal.
I am email and Facebook friends with many CCers & I’ve stayed in the vacation home of one CCer who I’ve ‘known’ over ten years, but never met!
I have met few CC’ers in real person over the years. I have been “email friends” with a group of CC’ers for over 8 years now. We have shared many ups & downs of our lives. I consider them to be very special part of my life. Last year, after years of emailing each other, some of us finally met in person.
I’ve met over 20 people from CC, some I have gotten together with multiple times. The ones I’ve met have been just like I’d expect them to be.
I have gotten together with a few CC’ers and had a blast. They are really terrific people. I would love to do this more often.
@sorghum Probably so and when the CC poster and I meet I’ll be sure to wear a green fuzzy dress because it goes so well with my purple skin and orange hair/beard.
@intparent , that poster who bought the attire for the student poster was @oldfort . That was beyond awesome!
I’m part of an email group of CCers and don’t think of using their screen names when we email or meet. I AM afraid I might accidentally respond to one of their posts here using real names. Which would not be a good thing.
As cool, smart, and funny as I thought they were online, they’re much more so in person.
@whenhen, the poster you are referring to has helped me so much! I would love to meet her. Maybe our kids will end up at the same school.
I have met many CC posters, and some have been a tremendous help to me and/or my kids. You know who you are.
I have also met several CC posters whom I barely remember. I’m sorry.
DH and I almost relocated in 2009/2010 due to the crappy economy. I met some people in Atlanta and some in Reading, PA, where we might have moved. Lovely people but, in spite of that, I didn’t take those jobs. If I had, it would have been a comfort to start off with some acquaintances in our new area.
What I like about CC people in general is that they are, as I’ve said to my DH, “people like us.” Relatively similar age, with kids of a roughly similar age, who are intelligent, interested in education, and generally middle class. It makes for a good beginning.
I have met three CC posters IRL and it has been a great experience. I am friends with quite a few on FB and often wish I could see them every day. The first time I met up with someone I actually stayed at her home - it never crossed my mind that I should be worried or uncomfortable. It felt like I’d known her forever. I really miss her presence here.
At the big get togethers we made nametags with the real names and the screen names. Back from my aol board days I took my kids to stay with two friends I was in an email loop with when we were looking at colleges. They thought it was pretty funny that I wasn’t practicing the sort of internet safety protocols that are recommended. I had known them each of a good ten years and had painted portraits of the kids of one of them. We had a blast. One of them is married to a CS guy and he and my older son really hit it off.
.
I’ll wager that at least one DH of those lucky impulsive women was wondering if you were an ax murderer, MOWC, lol. What a treat to meet the people of CC IRL that you’ve shared so much with virtually.
P.S. Those two women guests not only survived the weekend with the amazing MoWC, but met up again recently with their spouses.
My kids wouldn’t know who I’m talking about if I referred to my very first CC/FB friend by her real name – they only remember “Hindoo”.
“I loved our SE FL meet up, and wish we could have more. (& I’ve lost the extra pounds since then)”
Was a very lovely meet-up! I’m down several times a year so we should do it again.
I’ve also met a poster for lunch who was in the Class of 2011 thread and lives in my area.
I’ve been on a tennis board since 1998 (there have been several iterations of it - it was very crude at the beginning) and have met dozens of board members from around the world at touraments. The first time I went to Wimbledon (2000) I shared a rental apt. in the village with 5 women I had never met in person - only knew them from online. We have been very close friends ever since.
It was a pleasure meeting IRL. :-h to veryhappy, abasket, and the SE Florida group.
I have met several cc’ers over the years, and several of us have helped each other, each others’ kids, etc. This is a nice community.
Haven’t met anyone yet, but I’m here in Gainesville if anyone is ever interested in the Gator Nation!
You could meet SFM, SF Dad, and our little doggie - the three of us can often be seen walking around Ben Hill Griffin at night. Shoot me a PM if you’re ever in the neighborhood.
ETA: We recently moved from southern Florida which explains my handle.
As ML mentioned, I’ve met her and many others IRL. My two HS class groups from cc have secret FB groups, and we’ve gotten to know each other pretty well.
Last month, I went to see ds2 perform in Philly, and one of the moms from the 2010 group drove in to meet me. We stayed three nights in my hotel and had a BLAST. She got to see ds2 perform and have drinks and dinner with him. And I got to meet her older ds and have lunch with him. It’s such a treat to meet the kids we’ve heard so much about over the years. I went to see another mom’s ds at a poetry slam when he was in town. It’s great meeting people from all over.
We need another Hartford meet up! Just saying!!
I’ve never met any, although I can tell from some posts many live relatively near me. However, I’m in a Yahoo group that doesn’t focus on college but has a lot of parents with college-age kids, and I’ve figured out a couple of them are also on CC from their very similar posts to both forums.
