So I may get moved to the cafe but was curious if anyone else will be paying particular attention.

D will be there sharing a room and a ride with other members of the sports band from her college and having the sort of experience she probably never would have considered even 7 mos ago.

Am a little nervous as she is shaky on the details but am so tickled that my girl who a year ago would rather miss a great opportunity than spend time with people she didn’t know, has gotten so comfortable with herself that she is going to be having this big adventure with a group of people she decided she wanted to join without knowing a soul. (poorly worded sentence but I think you get my drift)

No WCC ties (other than the fact that my Alma Mater, Wake Forest’s, claim to fame this year was winning at Gonzaga), but I’ve gotten great thrills seeing my two daughters in college head out on road trips with college groups. They typically are going in a group, “crashing” at someone’s place, and getting very bonded with their fellow travelers. This January, my senior D joined a group of classmates she didn’t know to take an Outing Club trip to the mountain cabin that the group maintains in a neighboring state. It was apparently a wonderful experience. My son, a HS sophomore, has set the sports band experience as a top priority for when he begins to make college decisions. I think that these kinds of opportunities are a key to getting the most out of a college experience.

gadad you are so so right! I love that D is seizing the day when there was a time not so long ago that I was afraid she would sit on the porch and watch opportunities pass her by.

Ha anyone who is connected with beating Gonzaga (in Spokane no less) even tangentially, is tops in my book So I guess now I am a Wake Forest fan!

Historymom- son attends a WCC school so we watched the games on ESPN. Looked like tons of fun for everyone. Does your daughter attend the winning school? Watched mainly the mens games but you could tell everyone was having fun. Great publicity for the WCC schools.

No direct WCC ties but saw a lot of WCC games featuring Seattle University when I was a kid. WCC was always a very competitive basketball league and has a storied history; Bill Russell at U of San Francisco, Elgin Baylor and later Clint Richardson at Seattle University, Kurt Rambis at Santa Clara, ohn Stockton at Gonzaga. Today I hear that the kids in the band and the crowd at Gonzaga, U of San Diego rock the house at the mens and womens basketball games.
