OMGosh. D26 got a letter for $15K per year tonight, $60K total!

Digital Narrative and Interactive Design in Dietrich (but interdisciplinary with Computing).

OOS. 1560 SAT. 95.84 uw / 99.19 w GPA. Honors acceptance last week.

We’ll be visiting for the first time in Feb – seems awesome on paper, so very curious to see what the kid thinks!

Still waiting for my daughter but it seems that there is no consistency with these awards.

Can you provide some information regarding what perqs come with the Honors college (priority class registration, research opportunities, financial awards, etc.)? Some of the admitted students on this thread might be interested.

Pitt has virtual honors college admitted students “Meet and Greets”. My daughter can’t make the one this month for Dietrich - but has signed up for the one on January 26

Our son (being honest) is an excellent student but does not take advantage of the opportunities of the Honors College. He also does not tell us much:) He is a Junior, Mechanical Engineering major. He has a special Advisor through the Honors college (who I know was very helpful his Freshman year) and priority scheduling. His Honors dorm Freshman year also seemed nicer than most of his friends (not 100 percent sure of this). There seems to be a lot of Honors events and the Honors lounge looks very nice too. He had a research experience with a Professor but I think that he secured this on his own. He choose Pitt at the last minute (was admitted to some awesome colleges) and it has been a very positive experience.

I’m guessing most kids don’t take full advantage of Honors colleges unless forced - ie they have continual requirements to stay in.

At Bama, so many drop out at the end, once priority reg is over. I’m guessing it’s similar at other places.

Honors Colleges should have required steps along the way to prevent this.

We met with the Honors people when we did the admitted student visit last weekend. At least for nursing, it sounds like most of the requirements needed for an Honors Degree are covered just by taking the requisite BSN coursework. There might be a little extra, but overall, it did not seem like an onerous undertaking. This was good news for my D, who does not care much about Honors as a feather in her cap…

Oh, you have one of those too?

It sounds like he is getting some benefit from the Honors College, even if he is not taking full advantage. The priority scheduling is a great help for an engineering student trying to graduate in four years at a large public university where getting frozen out of a pre-req can add a semester. Good luck to him.

This is good to hear. My D26, too, doesn’t care one bit about the honors designation or extra requirements – but she would be interested in better housing options and priority registration, plus any kind of smaller classes or community feel.

Hi! My daughter applied mid October and received her acceptance 11/6 (although her portal was updated many days before she got the acceptance email lol). She just got her Merit award tonight. She received 15K to Deitrich -we are OOS. She has an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and I think her weighted is 4.8. 1570 SAT lots of ECs, #1 in her class (of 170). Still waiting to hear about honors college!

Good luck! Really hoping that my son hears soon. Pitt is his dream school. He was admitted to Swanson on 10/2, but no word about aid yet. :crossed_fingers: :folded_hands:

Starting to get concerned here.. Daughter accepted 10/16 and has gotten honors college acceptance - but still no merit???

Getting nervous here too. My son has almost exactly the same stats his older brother did last year and he got $15K per year (OOS) but we have heard nothing. He did get into honors college. Was accepted 10/1.

Timing on merit can be highly variable. My S23 was accepted in the fall of his admissions cycle, but did not receive a merit award until January. We were not expecting anything at that point, but he received the max amount.
