Message for all the CAP kids

@STV

Im pretty sure it’s like automatic admission. On the website it says after you fill out the agreement they send it to the school, and send you some brochure thing in the mail.

I heard there also used to be a CAP FIG at UTSA? Does anyone know if they still have it?

if you meet the requirements your in

No offense, but you should’ve looked more into the CAP.

BUMP

Thought I would try to kick start this thread back up for anyone who was recently capped by UT.

I have other options (Trinity- 7,500 a year, A&M, St.Ed’s 13,500 a year (probably would transfer to UT ASAP, but could live in Austin), and TCU scholarship info hasn’t been released yet), but I would just like to get some insight from anyone who has participated in the CAP program or who is planning on doing so. I had been planning on majoring in economics or philosophy, then attending law school, but with the god-awful job market for lawyers I was starting to consider a more promising undergraduate degree. Any thought on that in relation to my colleges to choose from would be fantastic as well.

I guess maybe I should just make my own thread… oh well too late.

no biggie!

i guess we can just use this thread to discuss where we’ll go from here on out, and maybe help each other make decisions and such.

i already applied to UTSA previous to getting CAP’d so my scholarship application went through. hopefully i get a good amount so i can live on campus.

i was thinking a 4 bedroom at Chaparral Village would be neat, but since there are only like 1000 students it’s probably filled by now. ):

I’m deciding whether to go to UTD or UTSA. Though UTSA may be easier to get a 3.2 GPA, I don’t want to get used to it and not be able to perform well after I transfer. I don’t know how easy UTD is, though. Rooming seems pretty sweet for UTD, 3-bedroom suites for all freshmen, I think.

I’ve heard that UTD is more difficult than UTSA–that UTSA is so eeeaaasssssssyyyyyyyyy!
A lot of my friends who were capped (Most of them, in fact, are choosing UTD over UTSA)even though it’s a little further away. Think they just like the idea of the city and the dorms more there. Myself, I’m taking A&M’s offer and plan to stay there all 4 years since I’m Engineering.

I am trying to decide to take Cap at UT Tyler or to attend ACC and try to transfer or I could attend UTSA and try to transfer (didn’t get caped at UTSA:(

Option one:
I haven’t heard of anyone caped at UT Tyler. Anyone attended there as a Cap student? Any input on the school, dorm etc? I wanted to do Cap at UTSA but didn’t make it because I just missed top half of my class. I made a 24 on my ACT. I went and toured the campus and I really didn’t get any sense of campus life or activity.

Option Two
I could live in private dorm and attend ACC Rio Grand Campus, walking distance from dorm but my concern is 1) getting a high enough GPA to transfer 2) feeling a bet like an outsider because I would be living with mostly UT
students and I wouldn’t be able to pledge or attend football games etc. I toured private dorms last weekend . Liked the castillian and Towers…input there?

Option Three:
I was admitted to UTSA (not capped). So I could attend and try to transfer to UT

I am really struggling with the best route. Any input is greatly appreciated!!

i was capped to UT Tyler! I wish someone would let me know how it is over there

I went to UTA and decided to transfer to UT. I got in and even had the school of my choice but decided not to go in the long run. At first I did it because of the extra courses I would have to take and the substantial increase in loan costs but over time I’ve grown to appreciate the closeness that my classes have, despite its rise in students. I don’t regret it at all. There are intelligent people there and sometimes you run into the less intelligent ones, but that’s how life is outside of college walls anyway, right?

I got CAPed. I’m going to UTSA for one year. I’ll try to do my VERY best to get that 4. If I have good enough ECs, etc. I’ll apply to some top 20 schools, and use UT as a backup. Pre-Med (Bio Major). After looking through the program, it’s honestly not that bad. If you end up getting a 4 (which is very likely if you put the time and effort), you’ll be at an advantage over the students who did their freshman year at UT (they probably didn’t get a 4, since UT has a lot of intro weed out classes). 3 years at UT isn’t too shabby!

Hey guys! I just rediscovered this thread, ha. A year ago I was cap’d and decided to attend UTSA. Honestly, I had a bad attitude about it initially and I felt like I wasn’t good enough for UT Austin. Coming from a competitive high school and graduating with a 4.2 GPA and NOT being accepted was a devastating blow, but here I am a year later and I will be attending UT in the fall and I could not be happier. I opted to go to UTSA because most Freshman are in CAP, so I figured it would be a good way to make friends who would then be transferring to Austin. Anyways, academically UTSA isn’t hard; I finished witha 3.8, but do NOT underestimate your profs because some can be quite tough and can make or break you (btw if you plan to take Geology Third Planet do NOT take Judy Haschenburger - you will regret it!). The profs I had at UTSA were so nice, ready to help, and they really cared about the students; some of my recommendations are: Startin for Politics, Dykes for Pscycology, Hedgepeth for Sociology, Hamrick for Music, and Peterson for History. Aside from academics, the UTSA faculty too are very friendly and the students as well. It’s extremely easy to make friends with people in CAP, which is helpful. One thing to keep in mind though is that many students decide not to accept UT at the end. I found that many of my friends opted to remain at UTSA. The campus is fairly small and homey, which is a good transition into college and will make UT less overwhelming. The main issue I had with UTSA was living in CHisholm Hall and the fact that the campus wasn’t too exciting - most people went off to Austin or their hometowns on weekends and parties are usually at the apartments - The Reserves, Outpost, Madera, etc. Overall, the year will fly by and before you know it you will be submitting your transcript to Austin. Lol I remember move in day and meeting my roommate for the first time and just last Wednesday I was taking my last exam. If you truly want UT then accept CAP.
