Michael Jackson is Dead

I was a bit worried that after the election, Jon Stewart would have a hard time finding material. The last few weeks have been a gold mine for him.

I’m surprised he didn’t mention the MSNBC reporter who responded to an email asking why they were “all Michael all the time” when they were supposed to be “the place for politics” by saying that even President Obama had commented on Jackson’s death. Yep, that makes it about politics alright.

MSNBC.

Replayed every hour on the hour, ad nauseum.

lilmom-I don’t go out that direction for breakfast. There are probably places in IV (if anyone gets up early enough in IV to eat breakfast).
Storke Rd and Hollister in the K mart shopping center is the Cajun Kitchen. Don’t let the name turn you off. It is known for breakfast. I have never been to this specific location but they get lines on weekend mornings.
Fairview exit- there is a Denny’s, not my favorite.
Turnpike Exit- Corner of Turnpike and Hollister. Get off freeway and head towards the Ocean direction. Cody’s. Located far corner of Von’s shopping center. It is a step up from a coffee shop and has good breakfasts. Also the same exit is IHOP on the mountain side. I hate IHOP but my kids love it.
La Cumbre Rd exit-Marmalade Cafe in the La Cumbre Mall shopping center. Upscale same as one in Malibu. Breakfast is their best meal.
Fresco- same exit- I have never been for breakfast but it one of my favorite places for lunch. Located in the Five Point Shopping Center. (the one with the Ross)
Jack’s bagels- same exit but on the corner of La Cumbre and State.
Whatever you do. DO NOT WAIT TO GET GAS till you get to UCSB. The gas stations at Storke Rd are about 30-40 cents higher per gallon.
Cheapest gas- Conserve Fuel. La Cumbre Rd exit.
From the local paper today it looks like they are expecting crowds at the Ranch on friday.
If you are only normally 30 minutes away you should be okay. Are you coming from North or South? If from the South you will have some of the commuter traffic. It might be less since some people will have Friday off.

mom60 hits a home run there. Cajun Kitchen hands down my favorite. I’ve not been to the location in SB but the one near me is great. Second choice would be Marmalade Cafe.
Just returned from doing errands. A local’s friends who were coming up this weekend resold their $179. per night hotel room for $1,000. per night to some MJ fans. Craziness continues.

Forgot to say that I think the IHOP is on the dirty side. I wouldn’t go there.

Well the Jackson family is now saying there will be no public or private services at Neverland. Ebeeeee, you know the people that paid your friends $1000 for the hotel room are ****ed off right now, along with alot of other people I suspect.

I know that grieving people don’t always make rational decisions, but most people are willing to listen to the advice of an experienced pastor or funeral director who prevent them from doing nutty things. I don’t think the Jacksons have a mature, rational person that they are willing to listen to.

Where was the helpful advice from Jesse Jackson- a pastor?

You know, for years I thought that there was no person in Michael Jackson’s life who would be honest with him and tell him not to have those kids over, not to have so much plastic surgery. Now it seems that those people were there, but he didn’t listen to them. Maybe it’s a Jackson family trait.

Yup those people that paid a bunch of money are going to be peeved. Unfortunately even before this happened we would have people get stranded up there. Literally. Mostly young girls from Europe who would spend their last buck on a very expensive cab ride there. Once you get there you can only see a brick gate house and the gates themselves. Nothing else can be seen from the road. I hope we aren’t going to have a bunch of people stranded again. I was at our local Subway today and the lady in front of me was figuring out how to feed 8 on $10. Sigh.
I’m glad they backed off the Neverland plan. You can’t imagine it. There are no public bathrooms in the nearby town, just about three porta potties. The road is narrow, the town is tiny, it was a nightmare waiting to happen. They have been reporting something at Staples Center. Much better plan. They are set up for crowds. We are not.
Come to this area anytime to taste wine, shop, etc. but not in droves for something like this. Please…

I am disappointed that no one wants to buy a memorial rock (see my other thread). I actually found someone selling a rock from Neverland on ebay. I am not the seller, just couldn’t resist posting the listing because it is too funny. But as I said on the thread, if you want a rock I’ll go get you one.

Did I just hear right on the blip of news that MJ’s will names Diana Ross as the guardian of his children?

Diana Ross if mom pre-deceased him and a clear sign that Michael’s dysfunction detector was not working.

News said that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were battling it out to see who’d get to give the eulogy. Oh man, I’d love to be a fly on THAT wall!

Why on Earth would either of them be in the running? I would think Berry Gordy or someone with an actual relationship with him would be a better pick.

^^^ Stop being logical, youdontsay. So far Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have each acted as spokepersons for the Jackson family in the past few days. It is a media hog’s fantasy…

I heard this on Entertainment Tonight. Take it with a grain of salt…

I saw Al Sharpton this a.m., and he made me sick. Doesn’t he get that he’s the old guard?

Argh. I’m sorry for being logical. Will go bid on the rock now.

I did not see the Matt Lauer’s interview with Jermaine Jackson, but read Jermaine’s comments and was struck by how he actually sounds and seems like someone who loved and is devastated by his brother’s death. For me, this finally put a human face on the family’s loss – versus what I felt before was posturing and a focus on monetary issues.

I did see the interview, and it was pretty moving. Jermaine seems like a great person.

Matt did a great job of giving you a sense of the house, and, without too much comment, he showed the room behind the closet wall. Eerie. Of course, you want to believe that that’s where he kept all his collectible clothes from performances and stuff, but it was kind of icky.
