Technically you would have sophomore status but one of the only things that it would affect is when you schedule classes past the first semester. Your tuition would not decrease and might actually increase once you go past 55 credits for a lot of colleges.

thank you

My sophomore son who is in the James Madison College started with 33 credits. Just send your scores and the credits will eventually show up on your transcript. His advisor went through his scores and crossed off the classes he got credit for. There were many required classes for his major that he did not have to take. He also was given priority status when selecting his dorm at the end of his freshman year because he was technically “junior” status. Tuition fee will not change because MSU charges the same for full time students. It actually bumps up a bit when you are a junior. My current senior has chosen another school, but happy to answer any questions I can. We love MSU!

Has anyone else received notifications re. ADS finalists?
We haven’t.
Do they notify even if you haven’t progressed or is notification just for those who do?

I remember them saying we would hear either way, but we haven’t heard anything yet either.

I remember hearing either way as well. No news here.

I wonder if it’s a bit rolling, and they want to confirm the 65 finalists first and only then announce the semifinalist. Finalists were asked to schedule an interview for next week. If they don’t hear from everyone, they may want to offer the finalist spot to the next student.

Finalists are guaranteed $2.5K/year. I assume semifinalists will get $1.5K/year. The email says they selected the top 126 test takers from over 900 students. 65 finalists is my guess based on the number of awards and the email mentioning that the top half advanced to the finalist round.

True- some students may not continue in the competition (I’m thinking specifically about U of M sending out acceptances) and that would open up more spots for additional students. Several OOS people sitting near me at the ADS parent session said they would only consider MSU if their student was awarded significant merit scholarships. If they pull their admission offer, that leaves more money for everyone else.

Is it necessary to accept honors college invitation to get honors scholarships?

When you apply to MSU your application to the college is considered for many of their scholarships. I would think that you do need to be in the Honors College if it is an Honors College specific scholarship, but many of their scholarships are not for just HC students. Just got the email that I did not make it to the semifinals of the ADS competition.

My daughter also heard today that she did not make the ADS semifinals. Good luck to those who are moving on in the competition!

Son is a semifinalist, with $1,500/year scholarship award. Good luck to the finalists!

HI, Did your DD receive Honors Scholarship?

Yes- $1,500 per year. Hoping she will be awarded more even though she is out of the ADS competition.

Congrats!

My son got the email he did not move on.
