Did anyone else in this thread do the ADS competition? My S25 went on the second competition weekend. They said while we were there that they wanted to start sending out interview invitations on 2/14, but he hasn’t heard anything yet either way (they will also tell everyone who doesn’t make the interview cut-off that they aren’t progressing). We are on pins and needles waiting to hear!
Visiting for ADS was good - we went to a Lyman-Briggs presentation and he figured out that LB is NOT for him. I’m glad he figured that out ahead of time!
S25 still has MSU high on his list, but I think if he doesn’t get an ADS scholarship, it is maybe not going to be his top choice at this point.
The first round of Direct Admit invitations has been finalized. Invited students will receive an email today from the MSU Office of Admissions notifying them of a change to their application status; when they log in they will see their major listed as “Business Admitted.” Students who were not invited in this round are still eligible for consideration for the second round (see above for timeline details).
I agree, no point is joining as pre-business, especially when your son has even better DA options already.
We totally forgot about MSU Broad until receiving the notification this morning.
Thanks for this. Just checked the portal and S25 got Business Admitted. Very relieved since he didn’t get Honors College invite (despite getting Presidential scholarship).
It is so odd to me the discrepancies in what priorities are for different divisions within even the same school. I’m sure your student will get in the other rounds!
It doesn’t work like that in a real time manner. Colleges anticipate their yield based on historic average and accordingly give admissions to many times more than they can enroll—no one needs to withdraw their applications for virtue signaling that they are helping others, except of course for their own sanity.
The criteria for honors college and broad are slightly different. DD got into both, but it’s not unusual to get into one and not other.
We’re withdrawing too, but only because we’ve withdrawn from most others at this point except our top 3. Totally forgot about MSU until the notification came this morning.
Yes … they likely have complex algorithms at work and continuously update the model in this period till May 1. If more admitted kids withdraw earlier if not interested then based on their models, it could open up admission for those on waitlist a bit earlier. My kid has 2 out of 6 acceptances that he is interested to enroll and at the same time he is waitlisted on 3 more that he is keen to see the outcome. Has withdrawn from 2 so far. Ohio State University has a very transparent process- it has weekly updates showing how many admitted have paid the deposit giving an indication how many from deferred /regular will likely be admitted based on past history. Somewhere in the weekly data, though not indicated, it is likely they have offer declined numbers and would enable them to determine how many more can be admitted in regular/deferred cycle.
There’s also a section below the Congratulations that says Admission to the College of Business followed by a couple sentences with information and FAQs. There was no separate letter or anything that I saw, but S25 did get an email to check his portal for a change.
