I had a question for anyone with experience with either Dartmouth or any of the ivies or ultra-competitive schools. Dartmouth requested mid-year grades from my son who applied RD. Would anyone recommend that he send either additional letters of rec or letter of continued interest along with the grades? It happens that his mid-year grades are exceptional, and he also began tutoring a student per the request of a teacher who hadn’t previously written a letter for him, so I am wondering if we ask for a quick turnaround letter. Any ideas would be so helpful. Thank you!
I wouldn’t. They ask for mid year grades from everyone. Letter of continued interest is if he gets waitlisted. I guess if he has won a major state, national or international award, I might want to update, but not otherwise.
First, read nothing into that. Dartmouth was providing a courtesy reminder to submit required materials.
If he has significant updates since he applied, he can provide them. His application is his interest form; a LOCI isn’t needed until/unless waitlisted. .ore recs are not better than required recs. Your son simply needs to realize he’s done all he can and to patently await Ivy Day
As others mentioned, I would not send additional information/letters. If he is tutoring a student at the request of a teacher, that shows that he is a kind person who is respected by his teachers. There is no need to try to advertise that further - it probably was mentioned in the other letters and is somehow evident in the app.
Follow directions as they are given.
If he was deferred, yes another rec letter has been a good thing in the past for students at my school. If regular RD, then probably not.
